Go after Odom since Kupchak unsure about re-signing him?

Sounded like Odom may become available this off season. Could he be the big body that we needed? Would he worth the $14 mil investment?

The Los Angeles Times -
Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak has done a great job of turning into an L.A. favorite this season, but he still doesn't know what the team will do in regard to re-signing Lamar Odom this offseason, according to the Los Angeles Times.

"We want to see how we perform in the playoffs, what the market is like this summer, and most important, how successful our team will be in the playoffs," Kupchak said.

Odom has one year left on his current deal worth more than $14 million. When asked about extending Odom's deal, Kupchak seemed much less adamant than he did about retaining fellow restricted free agents Sasha Vujacic and Ronny Turiaf.

I would definately consider it. Not more than 10 mil though.

Assuming we resign Dre + Ellis (combined) for 18 mil...

lost Petey, POB.... that'd put us at about 70 mil.

Odom is a perfect fit for GSW IMO.

Davis/Ellis/Jackson/Odom/Biedrins with Harrington as the 6th man. If it did happen I'd hope Nellie wouldn't start a frontcourt of Odom and Harrington though.

That lineup above looks DEAD SEXY. MAN, Odom would do real good in a Warriors jersey. With his long arms and experience, I'd expect him to do MUCH better on the elite PF's in the west than any of our players have done. And he can run and pass. GET IT DONE NELSON!!!

I agree ! Odom is capanle of 20 points and 20 rebounds on any given night and he'd take some of the rbounding pressure off of Biedrins.
My only fear is that we'd overpay for him and screw ourselves in the process. You guys know our history with that....

If Nelson is staying, trading for Odom makes sense. If we can put together a package of Harrington, Belinelli, Perovic and a 1st in a multi-team deal to get Odom I would pull the trigger.

GS trades Harrington, Belinell, Perovic and a 1st for Odom and Farmar.
LA trades Odom and Farmar for Artest, Lowry, and Collins.
Sacramento trades Artest for Perovic, Mckie and GS 1st.
Memphis trades Lowry, Collins and Mckie for Harrington and Belinelli.

Davis/Farmar
Ellis/Azubuike
Jackson/Barnes
Odom/Wright
Biedrins/Wright

:banghead:

gesh.... reading is essential. See the original poster with the article. It specifically said Odom has 1yr/$14mil left.

Kupcake is talking about renew his contract after that.

Only one person mentioned it as a signing. The rest were talking about trading for him in a lame duck status.

Thanks for coming to our board.

Idiot.

If Odom is not in Kupcake's master plan for their future, Kupcake would want to get something for him this summer instead of letting him walk a year later.

That said, it means Kupcake wants something for Odom in return and whoever gets him would only have a one year 14 mil contract.

Kupcake could keep him for the last year. Wait for his free agent year to do a sign and trade to get value back.

However with this scenario, Lakers will have a $75 Mil of salary for 11 guys on the book (assuming Sasha takes qualifying offer). And still have to resign Turiaf.

IF we make the playoff this year, would you trade our '08 first round pick for Odom?

And if he was...we are FAR from being so under cap we could bid on guys at $12-14 mill,or so.

20/20? Maybe playing against us. Otherwise...maybe he does that once a year.

Any Odum deal has to exchange Harrington and we'd need to add some value/salary without overpaying.

Swapping Al for Odom? When can we sign?
