As a Cal alum, it's really strange seeing Monty going across town. But not really at the same time. He's a Bay Area guy. Hopefully more NCAA Tournament appearances to come. Good hire. Go Bears!

It will be good for Cal, but don't draft any Cal bigs until he's gone.

I'm freaking out here, what if Monty goes after Russell Turner? What happens to Biedrins, O'Bryant and Wright? Do they just stop progressing?

Well, in that case you draft every Cal big you can. They will already know our system: "go stand over there and be a practice cone"

After contacting Dixon and Tony Bennett, this was obviously the next name on peoples minds. No offense to Randy Bennett but they actually wanted guys who have done something in the NCAA tournament. That would have been such an easy hire to make but give them credit for thinking big and ending up with an excelent college coach.

Great hire for us. Finally we get a coach that's had success at a top flight program, been to a final four, and actually stresses defense. Hopefully, Anderson comes back as well, and given the success Montgomery has had with bigs in college, Anderson should do even better b/c hes easily the most offensively gifted big Monty's has had. The only concern is that he was never a great recruiter, and certainly the academic restrictions probably had something to do with that, so maybe he'll have an easier go at it at Cal.

Too bad his best player, Anderson, is going to the NBA.

He's declaring without an agent, and most likely, he'll come back b/c Anderson isn't a guy that's going to shine in workouts and drills.

YESSS. Good hire by Cal. Theyre program needs a lift and coach montgomery is a great coach for college. I wonder how Stanford will react to seeing him coaching their rivals.
Too bad we'll have to wait a few years to have Montgomerys recruits playing for the team...right now hes just stuck with what he has. I really think monty can bring some good recruits to cal...he is more known then ben braun and kids might like that he had SOME experience in the NBA.
Goooo Cal!

Or on an NBA court
He'll be back... the cupboard isn't bare.
Glad to see so many Bear alums here

Yeah as much as I'd want to see him succeed in the NBA, I just can't picture him being able to get his shot off. At best, maybe he can be the next Matt Bullard or Pat Garrity and be a tall white guy jacking up 3 pointers.

Congrats to Montgomery.
