O'Bryant's averages are 17, 10, 3.6 blocks, 1.7 assists, .9 steals, .582, .833 on free throws.
Scour the D-League annals and find a player who got 20 points, 10 boards, 7 blocks, and 5 assists in any game. You can't find one, I'll betcha.
Two dudes are averaging 17/10 or better, Patrick and Elton Brown. But no one has 17/10 with 3+ blocks per game and even .550 on field goals.
Break it down by forwards and centers and only one player compares to Patrick. Ian Mahinmi, the Spurs future versatile front court guy, is really good but he's blocking half as many shots at Patrick, getting 8 rebounds not 10, and commits more fouls per game in shorter minutes.
Sorry folks, O'Bryant is the most dominant big man in the D League and those who have always said that was the criteria but now still say he has no NBA prospects or some variation on that theme are looking like run of the mill Nellie apostles. Enjoy your Kool-Aid. Haters.

It's nice that he's had a few good development league games. Maybe some other team will pick him up and put him on their d league roster. If he's lucky he'll make the d league hall of fame for putting up stats that no other big man in development league history has ever or will ever do.
I'll bet he'd dominate my local YMCA.

Really? He has?
2 years for a long term project C from an average school? That's how long we're supposed to give players?
Less than 200 NBA game minutes on a team that cannot use his type of skills and he's an NBA scrub... Wow

Im bad at evaluating how good a big man will be in the NBA, but im getting better...im much better w/ forwards and guards
On draft day when the warriors drafted Patrick, i was PISSED, i wanted Simmons or Carney.
After i got a little better look at patrick i saw he had a bad attitude (or what i thought it looked like), but i saw his raw tools, and i saw the reaosn why Mullin Drafted him.
He is VERY Agile for a big man, he has range on his jumper, a nice hook shot. and obvious size... he is also a better shot blocker then Andris... Andris being a waaay better rebounder though.
Anyway, its obvious mullin saw all these things and jizzed in his pants, whatever happend between then and now, who knows... Nellie OBVIOUSLY punked Mullin into thinking Patrick doesnt have what it takes to succed, and sold him on a European player with a similar skill set minus the shot blocking.
All that being said, and it has been said over and over again, the warriors completly bungled this whole situation, Patrick isnt ready obviously, but to black ball him, outcast him, and completly break his confidence, is pretty gross... now.. im not saying coddle him, and cater to him, whihc is what don nelson obviously think patrick wants since he was a high pick...
but jesus christ, athletic agile basketball skilled big men dont grow on trees... all that said.. i dont think patrick is a dominat force at all... but i'd say hes better then Rasho Nestorovic... and Rasho is a starting C in the NBA...
soo... yea.

Nelson didn't want him and the tri-captains, paragons of decent behavior lo these many years, were complete tools to Patty.
Patty may have been an entitled little brat but Belinelli is worse and Belinelli has one fair offensive game in his entire career now. Busty has about 200 minutes this year. Patty has 219 in two years.
One was Nelson's baby, one was not.
The End.

IMO he got his shot this year and didn't prove crap. Why waste a season developing this scrub who hasn't shown crap in the limited game time he's had and probably in practice. He had one game he played good in and that was against the Clips. The other games he was basically a waste of space and was lost. POB had his shot to prove he's worth in practice, but didn't so it was time to cut our losses on this project called POB. We have 2 other projects right now, Project BW and Project Bellineli. These 2 are more critical to our future than POB will ever be.
You have to earn playing time. It's not given to you cause you're a project.

rone,
You have no idea why the Warriors declined his option.
Like the Ellis attitude rumors last year when the Warriors were rumored to be seriously considering sending him to Atlanta for a crack at Al Thornton, the O'Bryant story is just a matter of typical front office posturing. They suddenly talk openly-- but intentionally and narrowly-- about how all competitive, egotistical, testosterone-driven professional thletes (especially youngsters) think and behave.
They single out the average attitude of one player who represents meaningful cap clearance or perhaps even a discount reserve player while still milking a public conception of the one they have not bad-mouthed-- Busty-- gained of one Summer League performance. If Busty starts producing now, great. O'Bryant is too and can't be blamed for not doing it in games Nelson refused to play him in unless you're a blind Nelson apologist.
The problem is that his D-League play and the less-publicized (by the Warriors) league opinion that Nelson simply has no interest in that kind of player unless he's totally ready to start and dominate NOW-- hence the rumored big trade of all good youth for Kevin Garnett's final seasons-- will earn him Summer Camp invitations from other teams at a bare minimum, probably actually a better contract than, say, Matt Barnes, in terms of years and total cash commitment.
So the Warriors may not be able to get him on the cheap even though, in reality, they had hoped very much to keep that option open. Had O'Bryant not been motivated to get out from under Don Nelson, he would have had his confidence adequately shaken and would have not been the dominant force he's been in the ONLY regular playing time he's received this year. But he was abused enough by Nelson and the captains to learn something from it and may get to play somewhere as a result.
No one can ask a green second year center to do any more than that.
Many would reward this actually very rapid maturation and growth for typical NBA center prospects with the third scale year rookie contracts feature for a reason, unless the ego clash was so great and O'Bryant's distaste for Nelson's desire that he play away from the rim more so pure that the two could not work together under the power structure Nelson requires.
Except apparently Don Nelson.
