[Insert more Lasme coverage and awesome game thread effort than Warriors FO deserves here]
Lasme is going to make Josh Smith look like Dog Doo.
Mbook it.
Thanks for the memories, CWebb, THud, and Austin Croshere. We knew ye well, Toby Bailey, Carlos Powell, Pierre Felon, and that guy from Midnight Oil from the Summer League team. Barnsatrus, you were one mutant less-than-average and aging 8th man we'll never forget.
Stephane Lasme says:
"I'm closer to home and further from you psychos. Enjoy your golf season, just. like. me.
Oh yeah, want the number one pick in the draft?"

He was good.
No, Atlanta did not tank this game, they got outplayed by a team that was playing in front of a lively home crowd on fan appreciation night who cared about giving their fans something to cheer for. But Atlanta played to win, they just suck. Lasme was up against a frontcourt that many posters here drool over, Horford, Josh and Marvin. Zha Zha played little, and Lasme was never matched up on him.
6-8 including two jump shots out to 18 ft.
He didn't get credit for at least one block under the boards preventing a Horford putback, and more importantly, he frustrated Horford right off the floor. Al had a nightmare game unable to get where he wanted to be on the floor and unable to create the space he wanted to work in. Lasme was all over him and into his legs.
The guy really can play. He's not going to be a starter in the league, but he will be on an NBA roster next season and he will have a career in this league.
Throwing him away to make room for Mbenga was an unequivocally bad decision.
Oh, and I can not overstate just how bowlegged Mike Bibby is. It's just freakish watching him waddle around the court. I think he's the world's tallest dwarf.

He got Gyped for his block on Horford tonight, and I was sitting under the basket and it was very clear.
That said, he's going to get blocks against, because he's not an offensive threat getting his own shot. The heat ran plays for him early on to try and get Atl's bigs in foul trouble (because Blount apparently can't be bothered to enter the paint.) Lasme trying to get his own shot off is him asking for trouble, but getting his own shot in the post or worse, trying to drive from the wing is going to get him blocked a lot.
But is that what you're looking for in a backup defensive big man? To run your offense through him and ask him to attack Josh Smith and Al Horford at the rim? In the think of a compeitive NBA season, there aren't going to be a lot of Lasme post up playcalls.
Horford could not make an offensive contribution with him on the floor. Josh got a lot of his points in transition and few of them at all with Lasme matched up on him. His job in the NBA will be to defend, and he's already good at it. Very good.

Caught most of the game pre-Warrior tip-off.
Lasme had another block, too, very early on a wing. I counted two and a deflection that may as well be a third because of how ridiculously pants-peeing the change of direction shot-to-pass from li'l Mike Bibs was on the play.
Busty had points tonight as he had his first good night all season chucking with the Golden State Chuckers, but that's about it.
Daequan Cook and Lasme still smoked him this year and tonight in terms of all around play-- what'd you thin kof Cook as a late first rounder tonight, Sleepy?
Busty better bring it this Summer to prove Nick right to be on Busty's jock but let's mount the "Who should start: Busty, Azu, Jack, or Baron?" thread now anyway.

Just to take this thread in a slightly different direction, I want position my interest in observing Lasme. First off, he was drafted by my favorite team, and now plays for my local team. I have a reasonable excuse. For me this has nothing really to do with Beli or with waving anything in any particular poster's face.
For me the issue is as simple as: is Lasme a better backup big man than DJ Mbenga, or more valuable in his role than Thud was in his. Having watched him on the tube for weeks and now in person, I would say unequivocally yes. To me, that makes cutting Lasme a mistake. Considering our defensive frontcourt weakness all season? I'd say a pretty big mistake.
The peoplw on this board who hate Al would have LOVED having Lasme available to play 10 of those PF/undersized center minutes per game. He would have fit a need very nicely.
Big ooops to Nellie on the veteran scrubs.

From what I can tell, he sure would have done better than Putrous or Bukie at the 4 spot (at least defensively). That 10 mpg could have really helped. As for playing Center, I'm not too sure about that one (that's right Bukie played some Center didn't he?).

Cook is not my favorite kind of guard. He's got a little of a lot of things, but weak handle, and a seemingly poor game IQ (even for a rook.) I kind of have the same bias with guards that Nellie has with bigs. I like specialization in players under 6'7" and I don't know what Cook's specialty is going to be. I'm a sucker for great handle (which is why I can put up with a ton of Baron's crap, and have hope for Belli.)
I just think it is so important to be able to get the ball where you need it to be on the floor without risking turnovers and without having to focus on protecting the ball limiting your mobility. Cook's handle underwealms me.
WE DO NOT HAVE enough players who can control the ball and move effectively with it. Part of our zone issues are that no one on this team other than a well rested Baron has legit NBA handle. Monta overcomes this by picking up the ball at 19 ft and using blazing speed to get to the rim or in passing position without keeping his dribble alive, but that has it's obvious problems against a zone.
Along those lines, I am impressed with Jason Williams progress into maturity as a now veteran player. He runs a team pretty darn well and his high risk/low reward plays are down to a minimum. If we wanted a guy to spell Monta, or work with him as the halfcourt operator, I would take a legit interest in Williams.
Chris Quinn looks completely overmathced in the NBA. He couldn't score on Mike Bibby for 3 quarters. I'm going to try out for his job.
