"I'm just going to let them do what they do," Ellis said of the negotiating parties. "I'm coming back."

"About the first of (July), I'll let them know," Nelson said. "That's about the date that the contract expires anyway, so I certainly won't leave them hanging."

Nelson said if he does come back, "I'm pretty sure that it'll be my last year. ... It's just that I'm getting up to the point where it's just not an easy job."

Classic Nellie. Hate him so much right now... he's going to decide whether or not he's staying after the draft? We'd damn sure better not draft a "Nellie" player in that case.

How hard was this job again? Running the same 6 people out there every night? Was probably just tough finding Baron, Tay, Jax their 48 minutes, giving Buke and Pietrus about 30 a night, and then somehow splitting 20 minutes for Harrington and Beans. (waits for patrol armed w/calculators :o )

One young guy who may not be back is second-year guard Kelenna Azubuike, who said Wednesday -- not surprisingly -- he will definitely be declining his player option with the Warriors for next season.

While I prefer Pietrus saying he'd never be a Warrior again, we're off to a good start

i like buike.

he has defencies but i think hes an excellent rebounding SG, has a decent stroke, and hes somewhat consistent when givin time at his natural position.

id hate to just see him leave for nothing i'd say hes a decent backup sg/sf.

I wonder what kind of discount Baron is willing to swallow for that exetension he wants so badly?

He has to know that there is no pay raise out there for him, certainly not continuing into his "diminishing skills" years. He is just not Jason Kidd. He is what he is, a very talented point guard who can make big shots and can outplay 80% of opposing lead guards for 60 or so games, possibly maybe even 80 games if limited to 30 mpg. What is the appropriate market value on that to us or elsewhere?

Expiring contract and Sleepy Claxton.

I meant contract value dillweed.

He's going to play SOMEWHERE. I was just wondering what it will cost if he's going to do it on a 4 or 5 year deal.

I still say that he's going to exercise once he finds that there's nothing better for him out there? Who's going to give him a multi-year deal starting at almost $18 Million and has the caps space to do it? The best he can hope for is a reduced rate (if multi-year) and that the Warriors would be willing to do a S & T and if that happens (and I were the Warriors) I would do it unless something very sweet is coming back which I can't see happening. I think we're stuck with him and Nellie for one more year. I can tolerate that for another year. Get the guy down to no more than 35 mpg, give him some more muscle support underneath and I think he can have another productive season for us next year.

To me the "Baron section" of this article is the most interesting:

"The situation with Baron Davis is not so clear however. The Warriors' MVP and lead captain said that he will hold up his decision on opting out -- the deadline doesn't come until the end of May -- until he sees some movement from the team on an extension covering 2009-10 and beyond. But Mullin said he doesn't expect to engage in such talks until the threat of an opt-out has passed.

"There's a lot of scenarios that you could throw out and play with," Davis said. "The bottom line is, if they want me to be here long-term, and it's mutually agreed upon and it's the best deal for both sides, then there's no reason to talk about (opting out)."

I think that the Warrior's FO will concentrate on resigning Monta and AB and spend big money to do so. I'm doubtful that they will offer Baron an extension, so the potential for big changes to the Warrior's roster is there.

Mully pretty much said they weren't discussing extension. He's basically daring Baron to go ahead and opt out. I think Davis will get so frustrated that he will, which is probably what the team wants anyways.

I say :clown: wont be back as a warrior

1. He will opt out and the warriors will happily let him walk away.

2. The warriors have some kind of trade up their sleeve if Baron is on a 1 year contract.

I believe!!

 If this happens, the team will most definitely be on the right track. Just get Monta and Andris signed, no matter what.

It feels like the Warriors learned their lessons from their past contract mistakes and are now treating contract negotiations like the business they are. This seems to confuse the players, who are still expecting us to negotiate with them like they are our buddies.

Last time I checked, an expiring contract was a valuable trade tool, see Kwame Brown and the Gasol coup. Kwame was garbage, and he had trade value! Imagine Baron's value after he 'reluctantly' accepts $17 mil...

We need to start looking at teams who would love to have a pretty good point guard, and are willing to part with some talent. What can Miami, Clippers, Knicks, Sonics, etc give us? It would be nice trading Baron to the East as he is the type who will light us up for trading him...

Get Beans and Tay locked up, then start hittin' the phones!

How sweet would it be if we could deal Baron to Charlotte to get Jason back?

Jason +Tay > your daddy

You're talking about a Jason and Monta backcourt? Would go from the highest scoring to the highest turnover and lowest ast/to ratio. You forget about your point regarding the importance of ball handling point guards? Maybe Jason's improved on his ballhandling, but it can't be that good. Man, Baron's got you pissed, Sleepy.

I'm hoping Boston flops early in the playoffs...Baron for Ray...Monta doing what he do with Goose on the pic n roll..Ray with the handles and goofy shooting range...Brandan on the board and D'n up like mad..Love posting up and making those crazy outlets to Monta on the break.

No, I'm not so much pissed at Baron as just resigned to his fate. Unless he wants to play 5 years here for $10 mil per, and see a shrink on a regular basis, we can't help him.

Yes, I have made the handle problem worse, I just still like Jason and I like tweaking Jason hater's noses.

Jason's not the same player he was pre-injury..I like this Jason..He's not a good fit in the backcourt with Monta though
