Would we really rather have Iggy with a max deal (5-6 years) for $17 Mil than Baron for just 1? And that's with two big deals on the horizon with Andris and Monta. Iggy for all his talent, may have just a big of an ego as Baron, if not now then certainly in the future.

Relax turkey.
Iggy is just my flavor of the day. Ultimately he would take development minutes away from Rush, and I can't have that.

I had thought that Baron would play for his 17 mil next season and thought he would be crazy to opt out.
However recently I think Baron will opt out if he thinks he can get a long term deal that will pay him more in the long run than his 17 mil this coming season. I think because of his injury history that he would want the security of a long term deal. He is also coming off a very good season that may weigh favorable to him opting out than to deal with the rigors of another off season/season where the injury bug could catch up with him.

Who is going to pay him more than $17Mil/yr for the next 5 years?
I hope there is a sucker out there.... that means it will be a S&T with Dubbs getting picks and decent players. We need breathing bodies next year anyways with so many FAs.
Uh... Philly come on. Lets hope Philly wants in so we get Evans and Andre Miller. Love Miller's game.... no chucking and a lot of rebounding. On top of it, no Baron 4 times a year.

on the depth chart, we got Baron as the only point guard and now we dont want him back.
i want Baron back for at least 3 more seasons.

It wouldn't (or at least shouldn't) take 4 extra years at $17M/yr to extend Baron. Baron would have to weigh the odds of what would happen after playing out the last year of his contract for$17M, does he get a ~$17M/yr extenstion as a healthy star player, a ~$13M/yr extension as a lessor star player, a ~$9M/yr extension a talented but inconsistant/injury risk/aging player, or a ~$6M/yr extension as a talented but seriously flawed player.
If he feels that the $17M/yr is most likely and the $13M/yr a worst case scenario then he would only accept a contract now that pays close to $80M over the next 5 years (more than GS should offer).
If he feels (as I do) that the $13M/yr case is most likely with the $9M or $6M options more likely than the $17M option, then he would accept a deal for $70M over the next 5 years. He could opt out of the last year of his current contract to sign a 5 yr/$70M (still a bit more than I would offer)deal even if it payed him less next year in order to make more money in the next 4 years.
