I think Avery is a perfect fit for golden state as replacement for nellie. His style of basketball is fitting for the warriors which would implement defense first and a up and down/half court slashing game.

I agree 100%. He might even be able to handle Baron pretty good.

May not be for too much longer if he gets swept by the Hornets (which it looks like he may).
The Lakers are not getting swept by Denver so I doubt Phil will be available.

Well its obvious because the Mavs are the 7th seed and Hornets are the 2 seed. If its the opposite, then the coach should get fired, if not, then give him another shot, at least he got the team to 50+ wins.

Its amazing how much some fans WANT to be another team that Nellie chops up... we're just going to completely mimic the Mavs now? Can't wait for our lucky flash in the pan playoff run... or did we already do it? It's hard to tell...

Avery Johnson isn't addicted to small ball, he would be excellent hire here.

Not addicted... but he's still a disciple... when Damp is out, usually Bass comes in... Bass as a C? Pffft.
Now thats not as bad as Buke/Pietrus @ PF, but its not good... Personally I don't want a former guard as the coach, I want a former PF/C if we're getting a recently retired player... someone who will really put a spotlight on our PF/C situation.

Pietrus at PF? You are crazy. Everybody knows he is god at SF. I doubt he can be an all star playing PF, because that isn't his natural position. Unless he's god, i doubt it.

The Mavs lost some depth when they traded away Diop. Bass is their best option at backup PF/C.

I don't WANT to be the mavericks. We have a totally different team, but avery transformed an offensive minded mavericks into a good defensive team. Yeah and of course he is still coaching the mavs, but if they fire him i tihnk he would have to be the top candidate.
I don't see any other coach that can have a fast paced team and also enforce defense.

Well, its not that I wouldn't prefer Avery (to our current coaching situation of Nellie/Smart)... and to be frank, its a very realistic possibility...
I want a sign from management that we are committing ourselves away from smallball, or at the very least, breaking it down to about half the time... A coach with the balls to change the style... as it stands, be it personnel reasons or be it coaching reasons, the Mavs are very much the same perimeter based team, and despite improved defense, where did it get them?
EDIT: Angel - I know, but you'd have to think Avery had some say in the deal. Avery in the end had to OK it, and move forward with only Dampier and I guess Malik Allen at C. Despite the focus on defense, Avery's Mavs have become more perimeter than Nellie's Mavs were...
Our situation isn't much different at the current time... we have not established a post game and we're running short on assets, just like the Mavs were.

LB might be heading to Stanford...So all we have to do is sit back and wait..Wait on the total and complete failure of the Keith Smart era.

Avery johnson wasnt a small ball point gaurd, he won a championship with tim duncan and david robinson. He knows that in order to win a championship you need to do it through defense and bigs.

But he traded away his best defender and interior big (Diop) to get Kidd...
Pair him with a good bigs coach and I'd have no complaints I guess
