Rebuild...

I can already hear the groans...

We aren't going to win a championship...

Hell, even making the playoffs is hard...

Why not sell of the farm, rebuild, and stockpile.

With the assets we have right now, we can stockpile enough picks to win a title later...

If we sell off Baron, Jack, Harrington, maybe even Biedrins and Ellis we could get a ton of quality picks...

Here are the advantages as I see them...

We would have 3 guaranteed lottery picks over the next 3 years...

We would have cap flexibility to resign the guys we draft...

We will have picks to make a Boston like move in 5 years to make a real title run...

We can peak at the right time... 5-7 years from now instead of right now...

Too long away. I say win now, trade our picks for good players, and win a ring before Nelly dies.

We need to get rid of Wright along with AB15 and M8..I like your thinking..You just didnt go far enough..Wright for the suns 15th pick

I don't think a full scale rebuild is necessarily in order, but even if you want to rebuild, getting rid of Monta and/or Goose in an attempt to rebuild is goofy. Those are exactly the type of guys you rebuild around. If you try to rebuild by stripping down to absolutely nothing, drafting 15 rookies, and hoping you get a championship team, you are doomed.

The people who think a bunch of rookies only will be the way to go, just don't understand the league.

It's no secret that the best teams in the league tend to have veteran leaders. The Chris Pauls of the league are few and far between. But even Paul has some veterans around him. West, and Chandler are now veterans. Peja is a grizzled veteran. Bonzi Wells, Morris Peterson. Even Pargo is a veteran now.

Portland couldn't handle a whole season of great play and they'd be your example of rebuilding. But they were' fortunate enough to have a number one pick. We don't have that luxory.

We are only some bench depth and maybe one big time big guy away from being very relevant.

Other teams are getting to the point of decline, so there's no reason to blow it up.

If any overhaul of the team is done it should only involve moving the chucking trio (Davis, Jackson and Harrington). Monta = franchise player. I'm all for rebuilding, but it has to be around Monta, Biedrins and Wright.

The best moves for us is as follows (in the following order):

1) Harrington

2) Jackson

3) Pietrus (f there's anyway possible but not if we move Jack)

4) Baron (it depends on whether or not we can move Al and/or Jack). The only way we trade Baron is if we do a Nash or Kidd deal.

Dump Wright..He's had enough chances..He's played more NBA basketball than POB..Look where he finished the year..On the bench..He's a bust..Maybe we can pick up a 2nd rounder by dealing BW to the Lakers.

Look at the Blazers,Sonics,T-Wolves. They are already rebuilders enroute to a .500+ season. A healthy Brand adds the Clips to the list.

Sac and the Griz also have some core and a lotto pick coming. I'd rather not get in line between nearly every team in the west when we have----after a decade ---reached a respectable WL%. Further...we show a below average knack in terms of draft and develop.

POB,Diogu,Belli,Be Right.....we had 4 guys in the top 20,3 lottos and what did we get....not even a regular rotation player. We got more minutes and stats out of Azu---who cost us NO pick. watson probably played more than POB and Belli combined. Toss some staff in the dumpster---then we can talk about a youth movement.
I'm not ready to give uip on Nellie-Mullin,and yet I can't realistically expect wholesale change. My experiance as a GSW fan tells me it can be much worse.

I TEND to favor the concept of build via the draft,track down the underrated young guys-gems in the rough. We-however-are pretty pisspoor at doing that. It's evidently futile to think the current regime is willing to go into a rebuild/youth plan with even minimal commitment or skills. So.....we take what we can get from these circumstances and look to the next phase as much as we can.

I can see dealing Harrington or Jax in a scenario where we get a better balance-specifically a F who has more rebounding ability and more in the paint power.

Pietrus? It depends on the $ it would take to keep him,what other moves are happening,etc. I'm not sure what options are even out there. A S+T might bring us a guy LESS cost effective. It is a bad thing when you just wave bye-bye to a lotto pick....and it's a good chance we wave adios to 2 of them. That says something it the system is broken.

Nellieball as we know it is in large part based on Baron's ability as a push the pace PG who on D gets steals..with Monta a speed mismatch at SG.
^Take away Baron and switch monta's role and Nellie has to start over on his whole master plan. we'd need a pretty sweet deal to justify starting over on all of our tactics.

he Warriors have to troll the lake and see who's biting and what bait works. They do not NEED to dump anyone,but need to be ready if there is a sweet deal.

I agree with the above wholeheartedly. I believe with the fall of some of the Western powerhouses there's going to be an abundance of good deals out there this offseason and I think we have enough chips to come out ahead if we're patient. I do not want to see us make any deals in which we CLEARLY do not come out ahead. I think we're in one of the best positions out there right now for a number of reasons.

The only possible way I see us getting something for Pietrus is as part of a bigger deal, where we can S & T him in order to utilize his salary to balance out a bigger deal with someone who I think would be interested in him as a secondary player. Between our TPE, Al, Jack, the #14 pick and possibly even Baron for the right deal (I still say it would have to be Nash or Kidd since I would want close to equal value in return plus I want to have a solid point guard to play with Monta next season) I think we have enough good pieces to get something done this off season. As long as we keep our big 3 future (Monta, Biedrens and Wright) I will feel really good next year and unlike others, do not see us having to give up having a team with a solid chance to make the playoffs next year in order to preserve our youth and our future. I do not even see the need to give up Belinelli in order to get a top player.
