Let's call Baron's bluff and build a team around Monta/AB
Baron may still have couple of good years left in him but he clearly has peaked with questionable durability. Let's say we call he bluff, trade him now and start building a team around Monta and AB.
Monta is no Kobe, and AB certainly ain't Shaq so we need another important piece to form our so call big three.
Assuming Monta will play 1 and AB plays 5. should the missing piece be a shooting guard? What if we put Monta at 2 and play AB at 4 and find a scoring center?
In short, how to maximize Monta & AB's talent with adding another piece?

I think we should give Pat Burke major run in the preseason to see if he should be a major part of our future core...ROWELL wrote:I don't care at all about making the playoffs next year if I'm actually trying to build for a real 5+ year run of success. That run can start 09-10 as far as I'm concerned. It probably should, actually.
Oh wait..We did that last October..Never mind.

We have some good pieces and we need to look a little further down the line as to how to build something sustainable.
I thought that was the point of trading Baron...

Another mock offseason thread?
Despite the omission of Wright... the types of players we need IMO, and could realistically get:
- shooting SG with good shot selection, good closeout defender (quick/high leaper, long wingspan)
Ideal: DeShawn Stevenson
Ideal for the future: Brandon Rush? James Harden? Eric Gordon? Maybe Tyreke Evans
- paint defending pure C, big enough to handle big time players 1 on 1. Strong individual rebounder. Length a must.
Ideal: Marcus Camby
Ideal for the future: Kevin Love, Hasheem Thabeet, Alexis Ajinca
- long, above average rebounding inside/outside F. Basically another Wright type.
Ideal: Josh Howard
Ideal for the future: Earl Clark, Serge Ibaka
- pass 1st PG, capable of spot-starting, possibly supplanting Monta
Ideal: Jason Kidd (bonus of being a incredibly smart PG - mentor?)
Ideal for the future: Ricky Rubio, Jrue Holliday
That's in addition to what we already have (Tay/Wright/Beans)... I'd include Jack/Beli in the "core" but not Al...

Let's see:
Option 1
(1) Monta + (2) DeShawn + (3) Howard + (4) AB + (5) Camby
Option 2
(1) Kidd + (2) Monta + (3) S Jackson + (4) Howard + (5) AB
$$ aside (not my $), not sure if DeShawn and Howard are on the market. Kidd and Camby (old and expensive) probably are though.

DeShawn probably isn't... but after a subpar shooting season and showing he can't be counted on unless hes the 3rd or 4th offensive option, he could be... very underrated player...
Howard most definitely is... dummy admitted to smoking pot in the media... everyone knows basketball players smoke, but there was only one guy dumb enough to come out and go on record...
Camby's the one we may have a legit shot at... I'd trade the #14 to the Nuggets, barring a Gordon or Love slip... Al + 14 for Camby + 20? Might go hand in hand with a potential Melo / AI deal..

Why can't we retain the GOOD young players and also win? Young players learn more from winning than they do losing.
Adding pieces to a good team should be what we're about. Locking up good talent and then doing what it takes to surround them with more talent is better than .....Just play all the kids.
Look at the really good teams, they're all deep with talent. Most have a good mix of young and old.
We have that but are just a few pieces shy.

Dallas is on the list of cities that you can't get away with admitting Pot use..The fan base is mostly made up of strange warped corrupted Dick Cheaney fans..Josh is history in Big D.510Reggae wrote:

I think Josh stays there. The new coach won't let him go. Plus who here doen't think Cuban burns?

Carlisle as DAL coach effectively ends any speculation of Jax being traded there as well...
I'd be shocked if Cuban hasn't kept a close eye on this Baron situation... the one thing about this agent situation thats intriguing me is that he said an extension was hurtful... hurtful! How low could an offer have been? Makes me think someone out there is willing to pay Baron...
I have a feeling Mark Cuban is going to be our Rod Higgins this year... its a damn shame Rod Thorn nearly cleaned out the cupboard at the deadline.

No sir... AB cannot consistently and effectively create his own shot, but thats all an unproven - he wasnt ever told to get on the low block and do that. Camby has a midranger, and if it weren't for AI/Melo's ballhogging, he could easily get 12/12...
Even if that were the case, we'd be in excellent position to fix it with a Baron trade or release... if its a complete bust? We know our team's weakness and have a high draft pick.

A Kidd/Monta/Harrington/AB/Camby would be interesting, from 2-5 all shoot at high percentage.

I was cool with Nellie up until the *Pat Burke preseason experience*..That's when I had my awakening..Thugleavy34 wrote: I'm cool with BD and Nellie for another year. They've served and will finish serving their respective purposes.
Baron? He really lost me during that 1st offseason here when he promised to come into camp in great shape after a summer of group practices with his new teammates..Never happened..I became a HUGE BoomFizzle hater...Love that BoomDizzle character though. He's a great talent.
