We should target Navarro

Navarro only made a small amount of monay last year, so he should be a very reasonable contract signing for someone.
I love the fact that he'd be a real good back-up PG, and he is a fantastic shooter.
Also Walter Hermann is gonna be real cheap and he might be a decent back-up center for us.
But Navarro is gonna be a real nice player.

I actually want Hermann. He can be a very cheap 7th man coming off the bench playing C/PF/SF position.
The fact that he can shoot 3s is already a + in Nellie's screwed up brain.

Love to have both of those players.
Navarro is an aexcellent three point shot and can play a passable backup PG in a Nelson system. That sort of addition would make me inclined to roll with Nellie ball another year, provided Baron's chucking is out and the Barnes/Pietrus charade is done.
Hermann is a favorite.
Great suggestions, Mylie.
Can we add Najera to this list? He suddenly shoots the three with no problems, if you want him to, and is already an excellent do-it-all veteran 3/4. He will not be "cheap" but he seems more than worth whatever we thought wise to pay our old men and wing-dings last year. I'll take one Najera over the Mbenga-Webber-Hudson-Barnes-Pietrus-Croshere brigade.

Hell, add Mike Miller with Navarro
gives Baron, Ellis, SJAX, Al, Beans, with JCN, Miller, Wright so far off the bench..
Still dont trust Bellie enough and sure Bukie is around.. thats nine..
Give me a big like CHuck Hayes and were good to go.. all hustle, gets rebounds, and put a body on the bigger PF's even if he is short...

Baron - Tay - Navarro - Belli Solid guard rotation.
Jack - AL - CDR - Azu Like Al as a 3 option.
Wright - Al - Love/Arthur/Ibaka/Dorsey(2nd rnd) PF's
Beans - Hermann - Love/Speights/ Dorsey/ Ajinca - Kosta Center rotation.
I'd do my damndest to pick up another late first rounder. Or even an early 2nd.
I want Love - CDR - and Dorsey
Would take Arthur -Rush - and Anderson
Be OK with Batum - Speights - and Taj Gibson
Navarro solves some problems and should be affordable. He's young and appears to be ready for a much bigger role.

No, we already have Belinelli.

We can't target anybody but Ellis and Biedrins unless Davis opts out.

Not true. We do have exceptions at our disposal.
Nothing major.

we have enough offense, we need defensive role players.
Dooling./Najera > JCN/Hermann

I like Dooling off the bench along with Belinelli ...My starters are Kidd-Ellis
Azubuike I have playing PF for the Fort Wayne rattlesnakes and coming away with the D league rebounding title.

Dooling is overpriced and unlikely to come in on a vet minimum contract under any circumstances. Unlikely signing for the Warriors.
He's also the same size as Monta Ellis and would never be on the court with him at the same time.
We need a big guard from somewhere who won't waste our time shooting threes and doing nothing else. But if we have to have a little dude who shoots the ball a lot, it has to be Navarro. He'll get a big chunk of someone's MLE, especially if Gibson helps Cleveland beat Boston or something superficial like that, so I wouldn't worry about us getting him. He's got LA Laker written all over him.

But no room under the luxury tax. Expecting Cohan to go into the tax for Hermann, Navarro, Najara, etc is delusional.

No major signings will be made.
Who said anything about going into the luxury tax?

Few, if any, of the players mentioned in this thread will be available for the minimum salary deals GS will be limited to in order to stay under the lux tax (baring a Davis move - even a trade could save enough $$ with the 125% rule to add one ~$4M contract).

The Warriors have more than enough exceptions to work above the cap, the issue you've rightly identified is where they are relative to the luxury tax. Gump laid out the right math not too long ago.
While there are plenty of ways to renounce and prioritize signings in order to free the room to sign low level players easily, hitting the tax is indeed not in the cards.
Harrington is absolutey on the table for precisely the maxed out 125% move you mention and Davis will also be used that way if the right deals come along and the right free agents are within reach.
Minor clarification on the Baron count: the Warriors would exist above the tax threshold for part of the year, no problem. If Baron is helping the team make the playoffs and be more viable than they were this year, tax will be considered and the proper way to consider it is not are you paying a spare $4+ million for the MLE guy and a losing the free ahndout but making the playoffs. Is Baron Davis worth it? But Rowell and Cohan will absolutely OK the expense for part of the year and move Baron when he can be moved, before they are ever at risk of being charged the luxury tax. And moving him to a playoff contending Eastern team for peanuts and draft picks? No problem come February.
Wright, Biedrins, and Ellis are the core according to everything I've heard from folks lately, so treat them like it and move their impediments out for real team depth. $21-22 million should provide 3-4 quality rotation guys at a minimum on a smartly run team. It doesn't have to be $27 million spent on Baron Davis' contract push/blow up and Harrington's tweener moping.
And the savings almost certainly mean the Warriors are very close to having their full MLE available for more important key role players like Najera, Navarro, Hermann, Dooling, whomever floats your boat.
It's simple math, much simpler than trying to keep everyone and skimp on bad players or hold rights to bad players who already have established they do not attract interesting sign-and-trade scenarios.

Re-working the math in the salary cap thread, we could conceivably be about 4M under the tax with the new tax estimate assuming BD doesn't opt out and AB/M8E sign for 17M combined. So, perhaps we can target a mid free agent bench guy.

Not a secured assumption.
Draft picks and Foyle's money get in the way, too.
But we can sign with exceptions all we want to begin with, nothing wrong with working above the cap, even above the tax threshold, while useing exceptions to build a real roster until renouncements, S&Ts, outright price-down trades have been sorted out.

some of you are favoring navarro when you guys should know he's a SG in a PG's body. That spells disaster with him (doesn't play d) and ellis (who i think will never amount to becoming a pg at all). in my recent post, i suggested getting calderon (who, from recent news is thinking about entering FA if he doesn't get the starting pg [toronto wants to keep ford for sure]). he DOES play d, pretty good shooter (good FG an FT %), and is a pass-first pg.
i don't know what it is you guys see calderon (for those who opposed to getting him) that would consider him a failure in nellie's system, but i think he'd fit in perfectly with the dubs. comparing navarro and calderon shouldn't be hard to figure out because: calderon >>>>> navarro. if you're not convinced check out the stats for yourself. they played about the same given minutes (25-30 mpg; both off bench), and calderon beats him in almost every category.
i'm all for walter hermann, though! FABIO OF NBA! we need more beautiful women flocking to the oracle. barnes + hermann + nellie's bellie = money maker!

buyouts, roster holds, draft picks, renouncements of Pietrus, Barnes, and Azubuike already included. Without trades of guys under contract, that's all we got.
