This is a team that is super young, yet talented enough to compete for the 8th spot next season. At the end of the year Jones, Szczerbiack, and Smith all come off the books giving us 18-20 million in cap space. Unless we can nab someone like Brand, i say we sign Kidd to a hometown discount of around 5-6 mil per.

Jackson comes off the books the following year giving us around 20 million in capspace to play with in one of the biggest FA markets in history (Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Dirk, Amare, ect.)

Solid deal IMO. Love the deal (but not the picks) for the Warriors.

I'd keep Gordon at #6, take Marreese Speights #14 and Joe Alexander #19. Resign Beans to a $50M/5yr deal, Monta to a $55M/5yr deal and Azubuike to a $9M/3yr deal.

Clips get a hometown draw, who will do one of two things for them... either (along with Brand, Kaman, Mobley and Thornton) get them into the playoffs, or (and Sterling would like this) come off the books next year and a massive expiring.

as for the Cavs, they need to upgrade their roster ASAP (because LeBron is leaving unless they give him something better then Wally, Smith and Damon... Harrington helps spread the floor, but is still a much better inside offensive force than Big Ben or Andy V. Tim Thomas does the same, and Maggette is the kind of bowling ball/foul magnet that you need in the playoffs.

Good trade for all 3 teams IMO.

If this deal was done pre-draft, there might be a way to package either 14 or 19 with #6 to move up and get Mayo. I think he could potentially be the perfect compliment to Ellis in the backcourt.

Batum and R.Lopez is a great way to piss away the picks we've just earned.

I like where this thread is going... EG is atrocious and Mayo's the best fit next to Monta... Mayo might actually be the worst fit next to Monta in the entire draft... we need people who play tough D, have a good, quick, and accurate shooting release... the last thing we need is another ball-dominator guard.

Clips get raped in that deal. getting back BD for corey, tim thomas, powell and the #6. not a clips fan but they wont do it, they need a 1, but they aint going to send their #6 pick for bd. when they could still pick up a bayless or a mayo with the possibility that livingston will be back.

plus i dont like the backcourt of monta and gordon. Both great scorers but huge defensive liabilities. BD was good on defense because he was strong. monta and gordon would just get posterized.

The 6'4" 210 OJ Mayo would be a good fit apparently.

But the 6'4 220 Eric Gordon? They'd get posterized.

What have you been watching / Reading??? Everything I have seen on the court/read about Mayo indicates that shooting ability and defense are his two biggest strengths. In addition, he has the biggest requirement for a Monta Compliment in that he has pg skills, but can guard the SG position.

Anyways, this isn't a thread to analyze possible draft picks. This is about the trade. As far as the clippers are concerned, their board has generally been in favor of a Maggette + #6 + Thomas Trade. If needed, I wouldn't mind sending Belinelli their way if they needed extra compensation.

This trade fills our team with talented players on rookie contracts, and gives us two opportunities at max cap space. Much better than just letting Baron walk for free.

I don't see how this is a negative at all. If Gordon/Ellis matched the production of Davis/Ellis then he should be the perfect pick.

The point is... status quo. If we are out of playoff with the original Baron/Monta combo, how is having this status quo make us BETTER? I think that is what we are trying to get across.

I like the trade but what is the infatuation with Eric Gordon. At a generous 6'4'' do you really think he'll be able to guard the elite 2 guards in the L? He has less athleticism than Baron does, and is more basketball athletic like Carmelo and everyone knows he does not like to play d!

We do not need or want an undersized SG to play next to Monta otherwise let the rapage begin. What would be ideal is a SG with a little bit of point mentality to lighten the point guard duties off of Monta so he can concentrate on scoring, someone like Joe Johnson would be preferable.

EG might be the second best scoring this season behind Micheal Beastly.

I dunno, as talented as eric gordon was in college, i dont see him bein a sav in the nba...well just not so soon. he seems slow with not a lot of athleticism. he is a clutch player no doubt and can score, but in the nba, players are bigger, stronger, faster, and more athletic.

Yes he may be the second best scorer but do we really want 2 undersized scoring guards going into the future? Maybe if you want Sissyball to stay around ...
