ok lets put the Baron trade discussion aside for a moment -



Golden State trades Stephen Jackson and Al Harrington

to Utah for AK47 and Ronnie Brewer


Why for GS? First off we've all been asking ourselves who the perfect SG next to Monta would be... Brewer (while maybe not long term) is the tall SG (6'7) that plays defense, and plays within his game (great fg%). As for AK47, his contract is ugly, but Brewer/AK combined make the same as Al/Stephen for the next two seasons... with Baron's contract coming off the books after this season, the Warriors will have plenty of space to handle AK's third (and expiring year).

obviously there would be a need to pick up some size in the draft/free agent pool, but otherwise that's a nice defensive squad, that is (aside from Baron) very careful with shot selection/fg%

Why for Utah? Getting rid of AK47 makes room for the impending Max deal that Williams will be getting. that, and they add some firepower. Stephen is a known hothead, but he's also known as a fiery competitor, great teammate, and he has a ring starting at SG for the Spurs... Al gives them a forward off the bench that can spread the floor.

that's not a bad core to come back next season with.

it's gonna be alot harder for Ellis to get to the rack when no one has to be guarded on the perimeter. When Azu is your only 3 point weapon, it could be a problem. With Nellie, thats an even bigger problem.
That trade would require a new coach, which is fine with me.

It's clear now that you think highly of Kirilenko 2003-2005 and are not at all clear on how bad he actually is these days, especially relative to his contract.

He can't shoot, those two 3's last night aside, and he's not tough at all. His shot blocking is in severe decline, his rebounding rates are going down, his scoring is next to nil and he's never going to be a scoring threat, anyway, and his defense remains totally overrated based upon years past. He was on Bryant a bit last night but it was a mistake and Sloan switched to Harpring, who made the difference because he's not a fantasy basketball sock puppet.

This is 2008-09 and Kirilenko represents one of the worst salary hits in the league. He's talented and has value but there will never be an argument that convinces the Warriors to take his contract on under any circumstances. Certainly not after moving out Dunleavy and Murphy for no other reaosn than to fast track salary flexibility. Knowing that about their sentimentality toward Al and Stephen, you can see why throwing all of that hard work away for a washed up financial albatross whose strongest supporters are fantasy basketball addicts is simply not happening.

Let's think about finding a roster to fit around our key players..Kirilenko is a horrible fit with Wright and Biedrins..

We need beef (rebounding-post defensive bulk), shooting and passing to surround 15-32 with...

throw in the 23rd pick, and that gives the Warriors two cheap rotation players (Brewer and the pick).

AK is only 27, and needs a change of scenery... is his contract ugly? Yes, but once again AK/Brewer = Al/Stephen for the next two years... so you take on AK's ugly third year for the pick and Brewer. Why? I think AK (despite LF's protests) is a good fit for a lineup that is built around Monta/AB and Wright. He can still handle the ball well, and aside from not being able to cover Kobe (how many can?), he is still capable of +Defense.

He can still be the same player he was 2-3 years ago, he shot over 50% from the floor for the year, had seven games with 4+ blocks and had 3 games with 11 assists... he is a SF that would work well with Monta IMO.

Name another player in the League that had a game this year with 20 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 blocks...

Kirilenko will never be a Warrior.
Wash, rinse, repeat.

Jack will never be a Jazz for obvious reasons.

Right, we haven't even gotten into how little time Sloan is willing to devote to rehabilitation projects. His issue with Kirilenko was that he was lazy, too focused on "extracurriculars," and had started to play the game wrong for his tastes.

Jackson and Harrington, boxing aficionados and positionless chuckers extraordinaire, would surely pique his interest.

All pretty much true even if a bit overstated. GSW would be dropping quite a chunk of offense and getting a jumbo contract on a guy who's play varies with the tides Last year's AK was about = to Pietrus-but at 5x the price (and not as good from 3). AK CAN play very well at times,but we give 2 starters and risk a $$$ mess? No can do. If Utah replaced Brewer with Millsap and Utah's #1..I'd think it over a bit.

Jacko and Al are way, WAY too ghetto to live in Utah.

Trading with Utah you would need to include Biedrins, Kosta and Marco in the discussions.
