Two big trades to set up the future and still compete
Trade 1:
Houston trades Battier, B. Jackson, Novak and #25 for S. Jackson and Harrington.
Jackson replaces Battier, but gives them more scoring. Harrington allows them to have a 3 pt shooter in the game that can actually guard bigs.
Chicago trades Hinrich for B. Jackson and #14.
With Rose coming Hinrich is expendable. They cut salary this year and get a pick.
Miami trades Marion for Hinrich, Battier, and Novak.
With Beasley coming in they are looking to win now. Getting two solid defensive starters and shooter to replace what they lost with Kapono would go a long way to acomplishing that goal.
GS trades Jackson, Harrington and #14 for Marion and #25.
Trade 2:
LA trades Maggette, Mobley, Knight, #7 and #35 for Davis, Azubukie, and #25.
LA really improves their back court to go with their already strong front court.
Cleveland trades Szczerbiak, Smith, and #19 for Maggette, Mobley and Perovic.
Cleveland gets Lebron some much needed scoring help. They also pick up a possible future replacement for Ilguaskas.
GS trades Davis, Azubukie, Perovic, and #25 for Szczerbiak, Smith, Knight, #6, #19, and #35.
GS drafts Love with #7, Rush with #19, and Hudson with #35.
Ellis-Hudson
Rush-Belinelli
Marion-Szczerbiak
Wright-Smith
Biedrins-Love
That team should compete for a playoff spot next year, then in 2009 offseason they will get another pick and have $20M in cap space.
2009 Roster if Wright proves he can play SF
Ellis-Hudson
Rush-Belinelli
Wright-FA (Mason, Warrick, Villenueva)
Love-FA (Lee, Frye, Gooden,Wilcox, Frye, Maxiell)
Biedrins-2009 1st
2009 Roster if Wright is purely a PF
Ellis-Hudson
Rush-Belinelli
FA (Granger, Turkoglu, M. Williams)-2009 1st
Wright-FA (Lee, Frye, Gooden,Wilcox, Frye, Maxiell)

Lester Hudson would be drafted with the #35 pick.

I don't mind this set of deals at all for 2 reasons:
1) Its roughly doable. All the pieces fit for each team, although I think CHI would be happy with the 19 for Hinrich and his deal, so if you reverse the order or combine the trades, we could ensure Rush would be there. #19 may be a stretch now...
2) The guy who's competing for a new contract and a new salary needs to justify it a lot more. Baron's been in the limelight because of his dunks and talent, but Marion never has. He'd be given the chance to redeem himself going into his contract year... and on a team that struggles w/boards, and himself excelling at them, it could prove to be very beneficial.
A big time concern would be PG though, as Lester Hudson is no more a PG than the rookie Monta was. That can and should be addressed in FA (if Chalmers isn't there at 35)
