GS/Det Trade

With Detroit looking to blow it up how about:
a trade involving Rasheed and Billups or Hamilton (depending if we want Monta playing the 1 or not) and exchanging our 1st rd picks.

Det gives: Rasheed Wallace, Chauncey Billups/Richard Hamilton, #29
Det gets: Baron Davis, Al Harrington, #14

GS gives: Baron Davis, Al Harrington, #14
GS gets: Rasheed Wallace, Chauncey Billups/Richard Hamilton, #29

Hamilton has one less yr on his contract if you exclude Billups last yr which is a team option.

I think this trade allows us to contend next year, as well as keeping our options for the future as Rasheed expires after this year. Rasheed gives us a big that can defend and stretch the defense.

Obviously this would have to be done after July 1st and after the Draft. I'm not sure how this type of trade would work since the draft is before that, but can we select a player they want and then they select a player we want?

What do ya think?

why does Detroit do this?

didnt Dumars say he wants to bring back the defense emphasis? And we are giving them All NBA First Team Defender in Al Harrington?

Some people dont think when they come up with trade ideas. Joe Dumars would have to be an idiot to make that trade and he isn't.

I think a trade with the pistons will work though, but not of that magnitude.

ok take out their 1st rd pick ... I was trying to get greedy, but they need room to bring in Amir Johnson and Rodney Stuckey. So they get a 1st, a replacement for Billups, and a solid rotational player, so they can further incoporate their youth.

In Billups I believe they would be willing to get rid of his contract which last until he's the ripe age of 35. He's 32 now and they've found his replacement in Stuckey. Billups could play alongside Monta and is a much more consistent shooter.

The big reason for the trade though is for Rasheed as he would add experience to the frontline. As a one yr rental at worst as to slowly bring along Wright. Think at the very least championship teams need 3 rotational bigs to compete.

This also allows Coach Don Nelson a real chance of winning as he leaves G-State, and we are able to keep our youth and develop them.

Just doing my dutiful research as a realgm.

Detroit isn't going to do this trade. Who on earth would really? Two quality guys in Sheed and Billups for Baron and Harrington? Baron might be on par with Billups in terms of talent but Harrington for Sheed isn't.

Just because Detroit wants to open up space for Stuckey to get PT, Dumars isn't going to make a trade JUST to make a trade... though from what I've read, Dumars is talking like he's desperate to make a trade. But most likely, if he does make a trade, it'll serve a purpose.

Harrington + Pietrus (S & T) + #14 for Rasheed.

I'm sure you can find plenty of takers for Billups and/or Hamilton for something pretty substantial if you want to move those guys too.

i wouldnt especially want Billups or Hamilton, it was more just to keep the talent level somewhat even. As Baron's talent and current salary, as an expiring is more valuable than Billups current 4 yr contract. I mean we could add Bellinelli to add another prospect to sweeten the deal, but you have to low ball before you get to what you're really willing to offer. It's called bargaining ...

If you guys really want Rasheed--and I dont--then you should attempt a Baron for Sheed trade, with a side team getting Billups.

At least Sheed would be an expiring contract. Billups makes too much over the next several years to fit into our future plans.

Key factor, which is the only reason that I'd consider him (too much baggage on a team where there's a lot already established but I'd take the risk for 1 year).

Biedrens/Sheed
Sheed (where he prefers to play)/Wright
Baron/Monta
Monta/Bellie/Bukie?
Jack/Bukie?/Barnes?

That would be a dangerous team for a year (in more ways than one).
I think the biggest concern would be whether or not Sheed, Jack or Baron imploded before the season was over. Put Nellie in the mix, and you've got one spicy Enchilada. This would definitely be a team which is playoff bound if no one got suspended.

At year's end Baron and Rasheed can drop off and a boatload of cap money would be available to either resign either one of them or to pick of a top FA. If we could just it through the year.

ummmm....that trade was Baron for Sheed so how do you still have them both on our roster?

If you read my posts in this thread and got the gist of them, you'd see that I'm saying I would NOT trade Baron for Sheed (nor Hamilton + Billups) but that all I'd be willing to go is Harrington + Pietrus (S & T) + #14 for Sheed which keeps us Baron.

I'd do a Billups + filler for Baron as a separate trade though but I don't see why Detroit would do this.

I'm a Detroit fan, I don't see any possible way we do this, it is something that my be talked to about for a minute, it would not happen in anyway because Baron even with the great year he had last year, he's had injury problems in the past. the #14 pick really doesn't intrigue me with the way we have been drafting, players like Maxiell, Amir, Stuckey late in the 1st round and middle of the pack, and late in the second round.
