Grizz making a run at Ellis

Post#1 » by killacalijatt » Wed Jun 11, 2008 11:25 pm

Read Wire Tap

What if Grizz do throw a sheat load of Money at Ellis and Cohan doesnt match?

What about something like this happens say if Mayo is there at #5

Ellis
4
Mayo
Jarvis or Conley
Lakers Pick

Then we trade #14 and Lakers pick to move up take Love

Considering our situation, I don't expect money being thrown at him.

Forget about Conley or Mayo. You can have JC and #14...

JC fits that 'jungle' ball mentality the Warriors have. He holds the ball too long, jacks up (Please Use More Appropriate Word) shots, and gets caught in the air far too often for my liking. Nice try...and if we get Mayo, we don't need Monta Ellis. Mayo will be a better player, IMO. He plays defense, can shoot the 3, and can run the point in moments...

A lot of complicated and improbable scenarios stacked atop each other.

Short of renouncing rights to Navarro and both rd 1's and who knows what the Griz won't be under cap near enough to even offer $9-10 mill.

With us a threat to match...they won't renounce stuff and maybe get nothing. Their odd behavior in dealing Gasol for scraps says cutting cost is top priority-not winning. They HAVE 2 young PGs,2 young "combo" Gs and Miller-their most reliable scorer. There ain't much depth at the 4-5....

Meanwhile.....Mayo seems apt to go before #5. Were we to get #5 maybe we trade down 2-3 slots for Love.

Conley or Jarvis Critt? There's a pretty big gap there in terms of value-even though for both its value based on crystal balls and guesswork. In that scenario...Ellis has to be a S+T so figure Miller comes here. They won't part with Conley. #5 + #28 + Miller + ? for Monta and 14? If ?? is Warrick or Lowry maybe we give it a bit of thought. Take out #14 and we probably give it a lot more thought.
At that point,I'd wonder if the Griz are still interested.

We PROBABLY will be signing Monta to a deal that averages near $9-10 mill, and maybe a bit more. Don't bet he's paid less than Harrington/J Rich/Dunleavy. I'd guess we will match beyond that....though there's hardly anyone both willing and able to offer a RFA more than $10 mill....and Monta ain't the only fish in the lake.

I could see Memphis wanting to have a line-up of Conley-Monta-Lowry-Crittenton-Gay.

small-ball ftw!!!

Monta IS what there's only HOPE Mayo or Conley can become...in a few years. By then...I'd figure Monta's better than he is now.

14? We have 14. JC is Crittendon? Sorry....not at all interested

It's Steinmetz talking out of his rear. Memphis didn't dump Gasol so they could pay Ellis the same money.

I suppose if the team gets sold overnight and new ownership is in place before next season, it could happen.

Yea the Grizz owner doesnt know what the heck is going on with his own team, i dont think they have enough common sense to go after Monta. If they do we have to match up to about 13-14 million.

Monta is the Warrior's future (along with Biedrins), I think that they would match almost anything to keep him.

For all of you dismissing it:

Chris Wallace is a moron.

Him giving Ellis max money is far from a stretch. Regardless of how many short guards they have already. I'm a little worried based on this, even if it is just a rumor right now.

There's no doubt we'll match anything, but MEM might make us pay a ton. At which point, MEM will become my 2nd most hated franchise behind the one they slingshotted to the top - the Lakers.

Chris Wallace is an idiot. However I think he was just the "fall guy." Jerry West and David Stern were the ones truly behind the Gasol trade.

And Memphis offering Ellis anything is inconvenient, but not a real problem.

Place blame where blame is due in that Pau trade. That falls on the owner. And it's that same owner that causes me to believe this article has no basis.

Its got to be a S&T for the Warriors if it happens, and the 5 pick has to be included... I love Ellis but I would like to see Mayo as a W... And if we can pick up another pick and Warrick or someone i think it might be in the W's best interest to pull the trigger.

All this is assuming Ellis signs for 10 mil+, otherwise lets just keep him

Totally with you on this one... Wallace is capable of anything moronic, stupid or unadvisable...

If Memphis offered Monta a crap load of money I think that it would be in hopes of getting Biedrins.

The theory goes...If Monta gets 13M a year then they may be thinking that we would not have the cojones to sign Biedrins to a 13M a year deal, as well.

Remember that the Grizz need Biedrins a lot more than they need Monta.

It's my thinking that the Warriors will pay Monta over what they are anticipating, while they won't overpay for Biedrins.

I agree with St. Nick that my worry lies in retaining Biedrins.

This is where it gets tricky. I wouldnt give Monta more than 12-13 million a year. So if it goes over that then we have to let him walk. Days of Dunleavy/Murphy/Foyle/Fisher contracts are over. Maybe Memphis learned from the Cardinal contract....and will keep Monta offer reasonable.
