Worth it or not?

Post#1 » by toffee » Sat Jun 14, 2008 3:04 am

Let's assume that KG was traded to us instead of Boston and are leading the final 3-1. Let's also assume that we sacraficed AB, Wright, Monta, Al plus 1st round pick for '09 (e the future?) as the main pieces for KG plus fillers.

All assumptions of course, not even sure $ would work, big 3 of BD/SJax/KG may not have enough firepower to reach the final etc.,

Again, assume that we made the trade and are leading the final 3-1 ....

worth it? Would you do it?

No way would we be in the finals (let alone leading 3-1) if we had to give up that much to obtain KG (Maybe Minnesota would). That in reality is the reason that we didn't make that deal and is a good one.

Hell yeah a title is wat they play for and we cheer for.

I take that over first second round exits any day. even if it meant we were in the lotttery again for the next dacade.

Up 3-1 on the verge of winning a championship...No Brainer, I take the championship every single time. Isn't that what RealGM is all about to build a team and win it all?

Boston Fans aren't worried about next year yet they are right where every other NBA team and Fan wants to be.

not only is a title what we play for, but that would allow for a Heat style "win a championship, blow it up and quickly rebuild" cycle.

Yeah....but how do we also get Pierce?

Who's our center? Kosta? If you make it part of the fantasy that the gamble already is close to working...then what the hell...yeah lets win a title and then worry about the aftermath.

However.....

The odds are pretty decent that even had we made a VERY expensive trade for KG...we don't even make the West finals and beyond that a decline is inevitable.

We lose 3 very young talents who can be starters here for 10+ years.
We lose a pick, which would help fill some of the holes this created. We add salary,so won't fill holes with more than minimum types.

We'll see how quickly Miami rebuilds from last place. The Bulls made some pretty good moves and yet failed to make the playoffs this year. So much for the quick rebuild.

yeah, but the bulls were morons... trading Elton Brand was stupid.

Miami has Wade, Marion's expiring and a top pick. They could sign a max player next offseason and be right back competing in the east.

If we are going to be revisionist dreamers we might as well go all out. We should have drafted KG instead of Joe Smith, Paul Pierce instead of Antwan Jamison, Kobe instead of Foyle, and given Gilbert Arenas that 3rd year so they get to keep him, plus gotten Bynum instead of Diogu.

The lineup PF Garnet, SF Pierce C Bynum SG Kobe PG Arenas.

My favorite revision would have been Mitch Richmond to Sacramento for the pick they used on Billy Owens before the Draft and draft Dikembe Mutumbo rather then Mitch Richmond for Owens after the draft.
