Varejao and the No. 19 pick to Golden State for Wright
I personally don't like this trade. The rumored talks are being reported by Chad Ford/ESPN:
• The Cleveland Cavaliers have been talking to a number of teams about Anderson Varejao.
One possible destination for Varejao is the Golden State Warriors. According to a source familiar with the talks, the Cavs would send Varejao and the No. 19 pick to Golden State for Brandan Wright. The Warriors hold a $10 million trade exception that allows them to take back a lot more money than they send out in a trade.
Chad Ford covers the NBA for ESPN Insider.

Bleh... It is Chad Ford, so I don't put much stock in it, but I don't care for this. I even like Varejao, but not enough to give up on the upside of Wright. A #19 pick who likely also won't be as good as Wright isn't enough incentive to make it appealing. And while he's right that we could financially do such a thing due to the trade exception, I doubt this is the kind of situation that would make us take on that financial burden.

crzyyafrican makes the best sigs, quite frankly

i doubt this trade goes down. Varejao is a poor man's Biedrins. Maybe this is a Cavs pipe dream trade....

There is interest in Varejao from the Warriors previously, so I think talks are going on, but I don't neccessarily think Wright is being included.

Re: Varejao and the No. 19 pick to Golden State for Wright
I would do the deal. Varejo is the better player right now , he is also playoff tested. I will admit that he doesn't have the potential of Wright but potential is not guarenteed. Plus the pick in a deep draft is very important. GS has found all stars with mid round picks. Tim Hardaway and Sprewell have been found in the mid teens to 20's plus Mulin has found Arenas and Monta in the second.
Players that could be had at 19 Donta Green, Koufus, Brandon Rush, Ibaka.

Re: Varejao and the No. 19 pick to Golden State for Wright
I really hate this deal and I think it's either completely made up or Cleveland is trying to increase Varejao's value. I also like Varejao and would take him on the team, however, I like Wright a whole lot more.
The thing that makes me think this is bunk is that it would add $5.5 million to next years salary, which would almost guarantee that the team would be over the tax, unless they don't resign one of Ellis and Biedrins, or those guys get a lot less than I and just about everyone seems to think they'll be signing for.
Regardless of the salary implications I hate this deal, and if it also lead to them not resigning one of the kids, I'd probably quit watching basketball for a while.

Re: Varejao and the No. 19 pick to Golden State for Wright
CAVs are rumored to be looking to trade up for a player like Brandon Rush -- why would the CAVs trade out of the draft for a nice prospect who doesn't play defense and isn't as playoff tested as Varejao. The Draft Express rumor is more realistic for the CAVs than the one Chad Ford made up.
From Draft Express:
#19 (Cleveland, possibly to move up and take Brandon Rush)
http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Wor ... Down-2933/
The CAVs owner isn't shy about paying the luxury tax when the players are worth it.
Chad Ford does the CAVs NO favors when he proposes trades -- so don't worry about the validity of this one either.

Re: Varejao and the No. 19 pick to Golden State for Wright
Obviously a bad deal for GS. Wright is oozing with potential. Varejao is an established 7/7 kind of guy, which frankly I think Brandan will be able to duplicate with one hand tied behind his back next year.
The 19 pick is nice and all, but you dont trade a #8 pick (who should have been the #3 pick) for that package.

Wright is not going any where. Ford just doesn't understand that.

As a Cleveland fan, I would probably do this deal but Wright is nowhere near as good as some of you are saying. (should have gone 3? Over Horford? Reall?) His upside does appear to be big, but he only averaged 4 and 2 last year. I would expect more, especially in the offense that you guys have.

Re: Varejao and the No. 19 pick to Golden State for Wright
No offense, buddy, but the last part of your post shows your ignorance.
Brandan Wright didnt play much for us last year because we were in "win now" mode. You dont toss aside 20 year old prospects because they only put up meager numbers in part time minutes their rookie year.
And if you want to say that he shouldnt be drafted in front of Horford...fine. But he is still one of the best prospects from last year and to trade him for a backup with limited skills and an unknown quantity #19 pick is clearly daft.
I think the Warriors fans have spoken on this one. Time to let it rest.

Re: Varejao and the No. 19 pick to Golden State for Wright
Look at the trade as far as a contingency plan for Biedrins.
One theory behind this trade is if they feel they secretly know a team is going to offer Biedrins a substantial offer and would rather use that money to re-sign Ellis, is this type of move to have Varejao replace Biedrins, then package the #19 and #14 to move up for someone in the Top 10? I can't see any small forwards worth taking in the Top 10, so maybe they have their eyes on a guy like Kevin Love, who can set a mean pick, shoot the rock and rebound? Not to mention throw an outlet pass.
I'd rather keep Biedrins, but if Memphis indeed drafts Love at 5, a project at 28 and stands pat, would it be surprising to see them offer Ellis a contract over 11 mill. per? If the Warriors match, would they be able to afford re-signing Biedrins, who could somehow command more than 8 mill.? The trade could've been talked about as far as a contigency plan if they don't want to re-sign Biedrins if he gets a good offer from someone.

I don't even want to think about what happens if they let Biedrins go for nothing, but the last thing they should do is compound that loss by throwing away Wright too. I fail to see how a package of 14 + 19 gets a better return than Wright + 14, and gaining Varejao does nothing to offset that loss IMO. If they're going down that route I might as well root for the Blazers until the GS front office is fired and Cohan sells the team.

Re: Varejao and the No. 19 pick to Golden State for Wright
Ok, for once I think TimK has some good info here regarding the source of this rumor:
http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2008/06/19/no-way-the-warriors-are-trading-wright-for-varejao-and-ill-tell-you-why/
http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2008/06/19/no-way-the-warriors-are-trading-wright-for-varejao-and-ill-tell-you-why/
So how does a rumor like this get out? Or the Yi rumor? There’s a similarity…
Let me spell it out: Yi is represented by Fegan, who wants his client in a bigger market. Varejao is represented by Fegan, who feuded with the Cavaliers over his restricted free-agent deal last year.
...
Dan talks to Ford, clearly. A lot. He likes goosing up interest in his players and he likes his players to get to the Warriors (Troy Murphy, Richardson, Arenas, for a while Barnes). He doesn’t like Wright, because Wright’s arrival screwed him in two ways–sent Richardson to Charlotte and blocked a path for other Fegan clients to take a forward spot with the Warriors.

^^ I hate to say it but he's wrong:
This is all coming from a very reliable Cavalier insider on another board... Believe when I say this, I wouldn't be posting this stuff if I didn't think he was reliable... He has a reputation on other boards too and you ask the Cavalier RealGM board and they'll tell you he's for real, too...
More moving parts involved in those talks than what is being reported. As pects of this deal exist that would make it look better, and more understandable from the Cavs point of view, but I don't see this alternative as a likely possibity based on some of the other alternatives.
....................
I can't see us not being active ....Andy's gone, it's just a matter of where he lands at this point ...
....................
But, yeah ..I've gotten wind of NUMEROUS options that are currently out there. The one mentioned by Chad Ford has been tlaked about now for over a week, but honestly, until it was put in print I really hadn't given it much thought of being one of our more likely options ...

So basically the Warriors would be trading Jason Richardson + 2007 Pick #35ish for AV + 2008 Pick #19?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
If this happens then people will burn the Oracle to the ground, ie it's not happening. Sorry to break it to your boy that he is wrong in this case.

Re: Varejao and the No. 19 pick to Golden State for Wright
May have been discussed, but I doubt it's been anywhere near taken seriously by GS.
Much less a deal with "more pieces that make it more to the Cavs liking"
Varajao is a horrible fit next to Biedrens.
Only way I see it is if Harrington (if the Cavs need more shooters) is the piece, not Wright
