TURTLE says we have a new offer on the table

Post#1 » by Mylie10 » Wed Jun 25, 2008 4:06 pm

Al, Wright, and #14 for Brand

That's all he said was that the offer is on the table.

I'd have to pull that trigger, but it'd be tough.

What does the fat guy from Entourage know about basketball? :D

I would pass on that one. We would have zero depth next year. Plus, there is no chance I would give all that up for Brand before he inks an extension with us. And the signing of that contract would put us in major league lux tax territory next year after also re-signing Monta, Biedrins, and a few role players to round out the roster.

I would also assume that Baron would stay aboard since you dont mortgage the future in a deal like this and then let your star PG walk while letting Monta learn the ropes.

This seems like a wild rumor without much basis to it.

I wouldn't do it without the extension either.

It's just an offer, supposedly. Turlte has a rep for getting things right.

id easily take this deal.

Brand is a monster. Biedrins and Brand would be lethal and banned in the Western Conference.
Lets Go Baron Davis...i dont care what jersey you put on. Lets go.
Big Smooth is focused and ready to handle the centers of the league.
Curry and Ellis will be a top 5 back court this season. 6/25/2010

the thing about Al is you will get ripped off getting rid of him. because of Al, Wright and the #14 pick will have to be included.

Al alone will not net a better player.

That would be terrifying, but potentially great. It would REALLY depend on medical information we (at RealGM) wouldn't have access to.

This is a HUGE factor. Brand's injury was hardly trivial.....cost nearly a whole season and this is a 260 lb guy who has to run + jump on that fixed leg. Great...he managed to play some for 8 late season games....but that's not much comfort here. if this becomes another Ralph Sampson deal,or even close...major setback.

Even if the thing is Brand is not prone to re-injury...but permanantly loses just a little in terms of quickness, hops, etc, then we are paying a stiff price.

I hate the idea of trading Wright. I think Wright could be very special, while Brand is a one year rental coming off a severe injury.

There is a concern that Wright maybe a guy who isn't going to add any bulk/weight to his frame to be able to play inside.

Okay...this trade makes me really nervous. I actually see this as a real possibilty to actually go down if it is indeed really on the table.

I am in no way a Bwright hater. I love the guy and I would be really sad to see him go. I also believe that we can potentially get a steal at 14...although not likely. We would also lose depth and 3pt shooting from Harrington...

However

Assuming we can get back most of our bench (Petey, Azu, and yes...even Barnes for cheaper) this trade makes us into a CONTENDER and a playoff lock. The "failed" High-Low experiment with Webber (although I thought he was great and improved our team: see Boston game) would be re-lived and would succeed with Brand. He gives us toughness, rebounding, scoring, and defense. C'mon guys, this is an MVP candidate. Remember when Shaq went to Miami? Well...they won a championship didnt they. It didnt work out for the long-term...but they have a damn title. I don't know about you all, but if I can get a title next year, I wouldn't mind being 0-82 for the next 3 years after that. We can definitely play with anyone in the league with a lineup of Davis/Ellis/Jackson/Brand/Biedrins. And that is a hell of a defensive team. Brand would make Davis look like John Stockton on steroids.

About the injury, I don't think that it is as big a deal as everyones making. He did come back strong and played a great game against the Lakers. (I live in LA and my best friend is a Lakers fan... he acknowledged Brand was "killing" the Lakers.) He has shown that he can still do it. Yes, he had a few sup-par games. Has anyone considered that the Clippers were far out of playoff contention at the point he came back and it mixed in with some conditioning/rust issues????

Bottom line: If this trade went down, we would be making a run for the 2009 NBA finals and lottery bound for 2010...and thats being pessimistic. The one key to this trade is to sign cheap, useful backups. We don't need stars on our bench, just useful veterans. Boston doesn't have a ton of talent on their bench either.

Sorry Brandan, Harrington, and #14...It will burn A LOT :( ... but this is something I would do in a heartbeat.

Brands game is not on athleticism I am pretty sure he will be back from the injury. Wright is potential Brand is 20 and 10 guy plus plays defense. I doubt LA trades within the Pacific to a rival.

IF Brand has a clean bill of health and IF he signs an extension with Golden State I would be all over this deal.

Biedrins
Brand
Jackson
Ellis
Baron

That is one SICK lineup.

Unless Brand can redevelop his speed and has a 180 degree in playing style he will have a hard time fitting with the Warriors. When the Clippers were playing up-tempo with Kaman playing the best of his career they were wondering if Brand should be dumped because Brand is purely a half court player. That was before they became the lowest scoring team in the league, so Sterling will definitely be more hesitant in any deal involving Brand or Maggette.

How does that trade work under the CBA?

That's absolutely not true. Brand is INCREDIBBLY agile for a man with his size/power. His game is predicated on being able to deliver a tremendous amount of power quickly and precisely to an advantageous position. That IS athleticism. Don't underrate how important his agility has been to his game. If you slow Brand down, you get Ike.

Achillies injuries are huge risks. I can't think of a case where a ruptured achillies hasn't been debilitating for an athlete. You absolutely do not make a Brand trade at assumed 100% value. You make the clips take a discount until he's been seen in a month of NBA action in condition. Of course, at that point, if he's got his game together, no one trades him. But you can no gamble on a blown up achillies. The risk of future injury due to compensation alone mandates some kind of discount, even if he is fully mobile.
