What's happening with Beans this offseason?

Post#1 » by turk3d » Sun Jun 29, 2008 2:29 pm

Anybody heard anything about Andris this offseason? He's been pretty quiet so far. Has he been working out at all? Sure would be nice if he came back with another 10-15 lbs of muscle next season.

One thing for sure, he's worked on something new every year to improve his game. Last year it was free throws and I think he added his little jump hook. Maybe this year a jumper? I want to see him playing more than 25 minutes a game this next season so he can get his double-double at least. No reason why he shouldn't be able to average 15 and 10 and still shoot his normal 60%.

I hope he develops a three point shot.

I think he's going to play for Latvia this summer....

I expect Andris and/or Monta to not be signed when the NBA season starts.

More likely Andris than Monta (it's possible they'll offer him the Q0) but I can't see them messing around with Monta too much. I expect it will be a quick signing unless he's decided he'd prefer to go elsewhere which would surprise me. Once our big trade is made ("if" it's made) then I expect they will address the who will be signed issues. It will depend on how much is remaining in the till.

NO WAY.

We have enough 3's especially since I assume you plan to have MP popping his corner shots. Biedrins adding a LITTLE beef...10 lb,is good, and a 8-10 ft high % J would be fine. I don't think we need to turn him into Murphy/Croshere. The Murphy we started with was lighter, quicker and scored a lot with a nice midrange J. We had him put on too much weight and hover at the arc as the 3rd option 3 shooter.
He needed the quicks/hops he had at 225 lb with some more in the paint technique. We turned a "poor mans Dirk" into Raef LaFrentz.

Technically you need to make the QO to even have the RFA rights. However if a contract is ready...that step is unnessecery.
I don't think it's smart to push the "let the market decide" thing too far but agents can dream of whatever is the highest possibility. GSW should not even toss out a "low ball",should put something real on the table ASAP,but make it clear that due to circumstances we'd go the RFA and match path. Bad news is if they get pissed and take the QO and Beans is a UFA next summer.

I hope he doesn't play for Latvia, because he admitted that it took a toll on him last year. We were all screaming for more minutes from him, but he stated that he'd like to not play this summer.

Problem is Latvia was coming at him full force as it is the Olympics. He has a tough decision to make. I think he should rest and come in fresh, but it would be hard to say no to your country.

If he does play though, the Olympics will have another reason for me to pay attention.

If he does play for them, then he needs to condition himself accordingly by doing some serious work in the weight room (he should come into the games with at least 10-15 lbs more muscle, (even a little fat would be ok), he can work it off during the games). This will allow him to be able to take the physical game you have in olympic/euro ball. Also use the games to develop his outside shot (this is in lieu of camp and will also help him to be less prone to injury by taking it outside on occasion). Work it out during the games (use the games to get in shape) and when he comes out and to the Ws he can trim off some of the weight if needed. I'd like to see how he does with a little extra weight and it should keep him from getting too "burned out" hopefully. It might also help him out a little in his contract negotiations (if he can show a side of himself that hasn't been seen before) if the Ws decude to try and lowball him. I think he can potentially tear it up this year. While everyone is talking so much about Monta, Baron, Wright and now Randolph, I'm expecting Andris to have a breakout season this year. There'll no Nellie holding him back this time around.

I still haven't heard what he's doing right now other than hitting it with that blonde babe of his.

I'm pretty sure that Latvia isn't playing at all this summer. They failed to qualify for the olympics last summer and weren't picked to participate in the tournament for the last three spots in July. Hopefully Biedrins has gotten a nice rest and will be hitting the gym soon to improve his game.

QOs have already been made on Monta, Biedrins, Azubuike.

You're all wrong...Latvia is playing this summer..But it's not in the olympics..Qualifying...10's right that Latvia is putting the pressure on AB...I figure if he's not signed to a long term deal, Andris wont risk it playing for Latvia

Yeah, Biedrins needs to be careful doing anything until he gets his big payday. I'm guessing that Biedrins contract negotiations are going to be drawn out.

Talk about having a sick feeling that Monta or Andris could just settle for the one year/QO and become unrestricted free agents next summer.

There's no QO on Ellis is there? Just Andris. Monta's a restricted FA isn't he? Which means we can match any offers, right? The only one they can pull that on Andris. And BTW, if they did do that with either of them, I'd say (particularly with Monta) someone's going to make an offer to beat that number and we'll have to match. No way both wind up playing for any QO although if they did, that might make it possible to sign a pretty high priced FA (as I think we'd be under the cap).

Question: I saw somewhere that the MLE is going to be 5.8 Mil, does any one know if that is true?

I wish we could send Brandan and Anthony to play for Latvia this summer also. They aren't going to get to touch the rock in Summer league playing with CJ & Belly. Dre got mad game from playing with the Latvian team. I wish we could send all our good players overseas for the summer and keep them away from the Pierre "rapist" Pierce's of the world.
