Baron and Brand have opted out!!!!

They said Brand will re-sign with the Clips, but Baron's says he's a free agent.

I'd extend Brand right now.

Baron Davis opts out

By Geoff Lepper
Monday, June 30th, 2008 at 6:54 pm

Just got word from the Warriors: Baron Davis, the man who led Golden State to its first playoff berth in 13 seasons, has opted out from the final year of his deal, passing up $17.8 million in order to gain his freedom after talks about an extension went pretty much nowhere.

More to come later.

I'm not sad at all... I think this gives this team a chance to grow...

Here's what I want some clarity on: is there any benefit to Baron to work out a sign and trade with the Warriors or did he give up any type of Bird-type rights when he opted out?

This offseason is shaping up to be way more exciting than I thought it would be...

Mully can prove his worth this summer...

Won't he get in the way of the development of Randolph and Wright?

THIS is our Payroll, correct me if I'm wrong.

Al Harrington $9,226,250
Stephen Jackson $7,140,000
Adonal Foyle $6,900,000---- Buyout
Brandan Wright $2,497,320
Kosta Perovic $1,944,000
Marco Belinelli $1,446,720

Guaranteed $29,154,290

CAPHOLDS
Andris Biedrins $7,910,088---- 300% of previous salary
Monta Ellis $1,541,220---- 200% of previous salary
Anthony Randolph---- $1,424,400 100% Rookie Scale
Roster Charge---- $1,768,456 (4 x Rookie minimum = $442,114)

Total $41,798,454

I didn't include Baron's monsterous caphold, but if he walks to Philly or LAC, we will have a ton of capspace.

MightyReds2020 wrote:Updated chart going into FA period, barring last minute change:

Guaranteed Contracts
Baron Davis = 0 (Assuming his rights get renounced)
Al Harrington = 9.226
Stephen Jackson = 7.140
Adonal Foyle = 6.825 (Bought out)
Brandan Wright = 2.497
Kosta Perovic = 1.944
Marco Belinelli = 1.447

Total Guaranteed = 29.079

Cap Holds
Andris Biedrins = 7.911
Anthony Randolph = 1.424
Monta Ellis = 1.002
Kelenna Azubuike = 0.973
C.J. Watson = 0.887

Note: I am too lazy to look up the values for Barnes, Pietrus, O'Bryant, and Croshere, since they are most likely gone.

Total Cap Holds = 12.197

Guaranteed + Cap Holds = 41.276

There are probably some minimum roster cap holds in there as well. Let's get us some playahs. Salary cap is estimated at 58.1M next season.

Wow, this should be an interesting summer now. Baron walking away from 17 million. He's gotta have heard something through the grapevine.

Unbelievable.
Ramsmar is a beautiful moron. Did he see Gil's deal and think there's a free agent market out there to play in?

OTOH, Cohan gets his expence reduction. I'd bet no more than 12mil of that capspace gets spent this season. No one out there has the box office draw to invest major coin in now that Gil is locked up. We're definitely not going to spend major dollars just for depth. Without a player that can be sold as "the franchise"in the picture, look forward to a "fiscally responsible" talent reduction around here.

This sucks largely because it will keep Cohan fat and happy as long as the STH's keep paying for spunky 9th seeds.

That's because you're a crazy ass african.

Brand can't touch my money until I see him play at 100%. He could turn into Dan Marino for all we know.

Let the tanking for 09 draft begin!

Ellis
Belinelli
Jackson
Harrington
Biedrins

Thats gotta be good enough for the #1 pick this year.
