a couple years ago the giants found themselves with a ton of money to spend on free agents. the management promised everyone that they'd go youth movement and rebuild. they then went out and threw a huge ($100+ million) contract at every big name free agent on the market until one accepted.

now the warriors have a ton of money freed up and the first thing they tried to do was grossly overpay arenas, a flashy "star" player who doesn't make anyone around him better and is coming off a major injury. they've also now thrown that money at brand, a non-flashy "star" player who is coming off a major injury. neither has even come close to winning anything, and they've won like 2 playoff series in their combined careers. neither deserves $20 mil / year (really only a half dozen or so players in the league deserve that kind of money). even 15 is pushing it.

will the warriors' front office keep throwing the cap space at free agents until someone takes them up on their moronic offer? will we watch someone try to take down barry zito as the worst free agent signing in bay area history? remember that the last time management dumped salary in the name of fiscal responsibility and wanting to be able to resign their own players we ended up giving fisher a big contract and dumping $150 million on murphleavy and foyle. i think that was the same movement that had us take on eddie suckjera and encourage him to pretend he's dirk.

The supposed offer to Arenas makes me lose a lot of faith... I think that was a panic move.

I do not think the Brand offer is a panic move at all... acquiring a player like Brand is difficult to do, especially via free agency, and ultimately the goal of capspace is to get a player like Elton. So even though he's more seasoned than the rest of the team, he makes our team more legit now and in the future...

Other than Brand, I don't really want to spend money on the FA market... Diop got swooped up at above market price, and Iggy + Smoove aren't ideal fits for the money they'd command... here's hoping the W's sit on their capspace if they can't find a good, long term fit here

The Giants felt they needed to do something for the fans when in fact they probably didn't. I actually think the Warriors do need to make some kind of splash to get some good faith from the fans. They're inevitably going to do something silly.

Josh Smith or Iggy would be a Zito like panic move.
Swing men come out of the draft all the time and can be found at the end of the draft see Howard, Kevin Martin, Micheal Redd. Latrell Sprewell.

Smith plays the same position as Wright or Randolph who may become better players.

The Warriors are taking their swings on Arenas and Brand who are top 20 players comming off injury so I don;t mind that.

Getting Brand would be huge, finally we'd have the legit star PF we've needed since Chris Webber opted out. Just too bad we can't have Baron throwing him the ball.

Brand would make Monta's transition to full-time point a lot easier. It'd help Biedrins. And allow the young PFs to mix and match and get some time without being our sole answer to Amare, Gasol, Boozer, etc. etc.

I think it's unlikely that Brand comes to GS, but the fact that he hasn't said as much already - and that the Warriors gave him fifteen million reasons to say no to the Clips... well at least I can have a little hope.

Josh Smith already is what we'd HOPE Wright can become..and somewhat more than we think Randolph can be. Biedrins-Smith covers the PF/C spots for a decade. B Wright can be fine at SF.

Iggy is with the Sixers who have $$ to spend. Atl has been tight with the $. Further.....We still have Monta,Jax and Azu able to play SG. We do have PF's but having a guy who's a frequent 20-10 and a top shotblocker....that's IS..not just could be. If could be worked I'd never be broke or horney.

quite the contrary. I HOPE Wright becomes nothing close to what Josh Smith is right now. Smith is a chucker that shoots bad percentages, sucks in half court sets, and sucks at defense outside of going after every block possible. The only good thing about Smith is that he is young enough to maybe correct his terrible understanding of the game of basketball.

The reason im okay breaking the bank on Brand and Iggy is because they are already the real deal at a position we need help at. (iggy will likely get better, but he is already a high level swing player)

Smith is more of a project than Monta at the point.

Count me in on that one too. Smith is good at providing highlights. I think Wright will be the type of player that provides wins.

Well I'm sure we all watched that Atl vs Bos series. And from that series I watched J Smoov hold his own against Garnett who is an elite power forward. Smoov is only 22 and he already has 4 yrs experience. Brandan will hopefully get there but we do not know for sure that he will. Smoov avg 17 and 8 and almost 3 blks at the age of 22 and he still has just as good of a chance to improve as does Brandan. Brandan may never be strong enough to hold his own against the elite pf, he may stay as skinny as Tayshaun and slide over to the 3. What I am saying is that Brandan is still an unknown commodity, based on potential, whereas Smoov hass already shown he will be a legit player in the league with the ability to improve.

After saying this i would be very hesitant to throw anything above 11 mil at him, 14 and forget it.
