Nice of him to leave 2M/yr in cap space for Washington to sign a superstar.

Looks like they split the difference on what they originally agreed to and the max the Wiz through out there to keep him away from GS. Let's tie up everybody's cap some more. This is fun.

Does this confirm we didnt offer 5-100?

BTW, Classic Gil:

"[The Wizards] offered me the max, and I'm basically giving back $16 million," Arenas told the Washington Times from China, where is traveling as part of promotional tour for a shoe company. "This is in line with what I've been saying the whole time. You see players take max deals and they financially bind their teams. I don't wanna be one of those players and three years down the road your team is strapped and can't do anything about it."

Yes, those millions Gilbert saved will really help the Wizards in their quest to ink.... Michael Ruffin?

Hillarious. Thank goodness he signed with them. We would have been in deep doo doo if he took our offer. Greed FTW. Whoosh!

Arenas at 110 million > Baron at 65.

Both bad deals though

The basketball Gods have turned into warrior fans all of a sudden.

This news has made my day. If we signed him then we would have been in danger of winning a few games next year therefore missing out on the number 1 pick. I think Gilbert is a true gentleman for "helping" his team sign a few more minimum salaries, Haha. Go the Warriors, keep driving the prices skyward!!!

2 mil a year may not be a lot to sign an NBA player but losing out on a guaranteed 16 million for anyone is actually a big move. If Gil was not representing himself, his agent would of flipped at losing that.

I love Gil, but I'm happy to let the Wiz pay him. I want to pay Monta and front court players. The other guards can be low sal guys who play defense and don't do anything too dumb.

After missing essentially the last year and a half to injuries, with his team looking about as good without him as with him, Arenas gets $110M!! Even over 6 years that's just a huge amount of money for a guy who really can't be the best player on an elite team. That's at least $20M more than you can sanely justify for Arenas.

I like him enough that if he'd taken our offer I could have been happy chuckling at the Agent Zero show for a few years. But from a basketball point of view I can't really be too disappointed. That guy is a piece of work.

He originally agreed to 6/95. If he were such a noble guy, he woulda stuck to that.

Better than the alternative - losing your best player because the team is cheap. I mean what kind of team lets their best player leave like that?....

From what I just read on the Wiz board, they'll be able to avoid the luxury tax every year by selling their next 5 1st round picks. That sounds like a great alternative!
