Plan C: Corey Maggette?

Floppymoose saw it first(LA Times) this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=821939&start=60

But since all the beat writers mention it now, I figure it deserves its own thread.

Going through the motions. All UFA roads lead through Oakland. We've already jacked up the price on two. Maggette has to wait for Brand, Davis, and Smith to officially be signed before anything matters. Doesn't hurt him to have rumors circulating, trying to get teams to talk and get some competition going.

Warriors aren't so bad with the league's #11 scorer replacing the league's #12 (Davis) and #13 (Richardson). All for a dramatically reduced price. But Maggette is effectively the last stop once the formal renouncements go through. Brand is still seeing what Philadelphia has to say about Miami, Golden State, and others putting the Clippers on the MAJOR defensive this week.

In the meantime, he'll be linked to everyone with money to spend or frontline MLE attractiveness.

Having said all of this, the Warriors are interested in him on their own terms once Brand formally rejects their offer and the Clippers formally have no rights over a fine NBA wing scorer. Still waiting...

No way we would sign Maggette, IMO. If this team is going to draft 19 year old projects there is no way we should be signing guys like Maggette to expensive deals.

I do see the logic in signing whoever we can with cap space this offseason while we still have it. After all, Maggette becomes a valuable trade asset as soon as we would bring him aboard. That asset would be lost if we didn't sign him or anyone else in this window of cap space.

Most likely I see him just signing with SA for the MLE.

Nah, after losing out to Baron and getting nothing in return, Mullyson will be trying to pull a sign and trade so we can accumulate any value we can out of this seasons wonderfully successful off season. That is of course it pans out like I expect it to which is: We sign none of Brand, Davis, Smith, Iggy, Childress and work some kind of sign and trade with Maggette. Tank Tank Tank baby.

You guys are overreacting. Maggette's market, thanks to the Clippers' haste, is at present is 3 years, MLE base year. He'll push for 5 years and he'd like one of the teams that still has cap room to up his salary, though only one of those teams really has a role for him and can actually compete - Memphis has Gay and can't compete. The Warriors are not actually interested on the terms you've all translated of a standard moratorium-week UFA report.

$50 million?! That's the Maggette hype machine talking.

But if the Warriors run through options, fall on their heads in the process, and end up showing themselves to be that dumb, sure, I'm with you. Ick.

Ah....the Warriors. Where else does a team lose their PG/top scorer/recent"savior",2 rotation players,and a wasted-ignored lotto pick....draft a teenager who needs to put on 25 pounds....and that's
wonderfully successful. I guess if the Oracle burned down and the home games moved to Fresno it would be just perfect?

Tank? So we botch another lotto pick? Biedrins is now the only GSW lotto still here who's played more than token minutes...assuming nothing else weird happens. The last GSW lotto guy to last (here) awhile and work out well was probably Mullin. Based on recent history...we should load up on rd 2's

Maggette is pretty talented, has improved in recent years. At $8 mill or less...not bad. It's a plus for us if San Antonio does not get him as a bargain MLE. Naturally....I'd rather get Josh Smith. Give Smith very near the max....or even the Max. We'd have 3 of the NBA's best under 25 players.
CENSORED... No comment.

Maggette should theoretically be Plan Z, not C.

You guys are nuts, Mags would look great in a Warriors uniform. He is an above average talent, would work great as our two guard next to Monta. Then go after Smith and trade Harrington.
Monta
Mags
Jackson
Smith
Beans
Bench
Wright
Hendrix
Randolph
CJ?? Or back up point gaurd for trade from Harrington
Plus three fillers

I think he'd be an OK fit here. But to overpay for him would be beyond stupid. Unfortunately it wouldn't surprise me at all.
