Starbury

Post#1 » by calbama » Sat Jul 5, 2008 5:08 pm

What about Marbury? Is he a viable option for the W's at pg? If the Knicks waive him or buy him out is the next team responsible for any of his huge 21 mil salary?

The reason that NY is spending so much $$ on Duhon is that both Walsh & D'Antoni realize how Marbury is absolutely HATED by his teammates.

Remember last year when the player voted to have Isiah suspend him for his antics after he was demoted as a starter? Isiah ignored their suggestion - and the players just quit at that point.

Marbury will be either traded or bought out. That seems a given.

Why would the Warriors want him on their team?

apparently his teammates in Phoenix & before that New Jersey also hated him. He seems to have the knack to just irritate teammates

Marbury has been bad chemistry everywhere. The Knix buy him out....likely....because they are willing to pay the huge cost and have him just go away. The Knix! A team with a number of relative negatives, sees clearing Marbury as a priority.....and it should be.

he was a beast with KG. id rather sign him than any free agent (pg) out there.

hes not the Starbury from the past, but hes still a quality player, and our team could use some quality players.
Lets Go Baron Davis...i dont care what jersey you put on. Lets go.

I don’t know.
When you get guys that are on the verge of losing credibility in the league and give them a fresh start and one more chance, you never know what could happen.
Next thing you have is a decent player getting his act together and Nellie makes them a Captain.
If the W’s could take a chance without spending much I say take it, couldn’t be any worse than the Webber experiment.

i'm all for it. After baron davis, having anything less that a big name point gaurd is just sad. I'll take a chance with starbury...remember when we had: derek fisher, nick van exel, speedy claxton, bimbo coles, dean oliver....please no more weird point gaurds!

I am all for having Marbury. If we sign him for cheap it can be a low risk high reward type of deal. Like Baron when he came to Oakland, Marbury could possibly revive his career here.

Make no excuses, he messed up in his first couple years in Minnesota and then New Jersey..but remember that it was him who told Frank Johnson (head coach of Suns at the time) that he wanted to run..b/c of Amare and Marion. Frank Johnson declined, Marbury got traded, Nash+D'toni joined the ship and the rest is history.

I see Marbury's situation similarly to Stephen Jackson's. Signing him for cheap would be a smart move IMHO. A fresh start is all he needs.

If he's bought out, and is willing to take "minimum wage" (he should be, he'll still be on the Knicks dime), I'd give him a shot. If it's cheap enough, and it's only for one year and if he starts any trouble, he just gets swift kicked out the door. No harm, no foul.

Another thought. You think we might be able to entice Brand to sign with us by telling him we'll agree to sign Starbury (we won't call him poisonberry in front of Brand) as his running mate. He and KG were great together back in Minny. Think that might sell him on the Dubs?

Just posted this in the trade forum (for kicks and giggles) in response to a poster who claimed that Starbury would be bought out and signed by the Clips to be Barons backup.

"NO. He'll sign with the Warriors who will start him at the point (where he replaces Baron Davis at a minimum contract) which will entice Brand to decide to come to the Ws instead of the Clips for more money and a better chance at a ring. Marbury will use this opportunity to redeem himself so that he can get a better contract the following year and stay in the NBA. Warriors will sign their two future stars (Ellis and Biedrins) to long term deals and become an immediate threat in the West.

Marbury/Ellis
Ellis/Bukie/Bellinelli
Jackson/Randolph
Brand/Wright/Hendrix (left him out of my original post, don't want to give away all our secrets)
Biedrens/Brand

+ whatever else scrubs are necessary to field a team"

I imagine there'll be some interesting reactions to this over there.

I am thinking Marbury will go to either to Orlando, Cleveland, Lakers for the min or GS for over the MLE. As a powerful pg he can start with Monta.

I can't believe that anyone wants to pay Marbury over the MLE.

If hes bought out and accepting a low contract why not sign him? Worst Comes to Worst Cut his @$$
If we get Brand Marbury is the next piece to the puzzle, under Nelson any thug can and will behave Coach Killerz like Baron and Strabary were made for him plus hes a cheap Baron pickup.

StrawBary
Monta
Sjax
Brand
Beans
= Championship plus great future

I try to never explain an awful idea by comparing it to one that was really stupid. Marbury hasn't helped anyone much and has gone hill from there. The Knicks are going to EAT $20 mill to purge him. Do you know how many new Ferraris $20 mill can buy? The Knicks virtually CRUSHED 100 shiny red Ferraris.
That's how much they liked Marbury.

And no....no second chance for Sprewell either.
