The death of two long held myths

Post#1 » by St.Nick » Mon Jul 28, 2008 8:50 pm

1. Chris Cohan is cheap
2. Chris Mullin is a bad GM

Now we shall let these ill held beliefs blow away like dust in the wind.

Go Warriors.

Unless those opinions are correct. Which these are :D

Cohan just invested $205M in salaries on our team this offseason.

Chris Mullin just locked in Monta, Andris, Anthony Randolph, Maggette, Turiaf, Hendrix, and Azu at the expense of Baron, Matt Barnes, Pietrus, and Patrick O'Bryant.

Cohan isn't cheap.
Mullin is good.

Mullin deserves an extension..He drafted Randolph..Case closed...

Cohan needs to lock up Sidney with a fat long contract that guarantees him the W's head coaching job when our ODB retires.

Oh..One other thing..CC needs to fire Giggles.!!..

Mullin had growing pains as GM but corrected each mistake and other than paying Maggette 1-2M per year too much he has had an excellent summer IMO

Cohan tasted success in 06/07 and to an extent in 07/08 (48 wins) and liked it. His team is young and has a bright future. He also knows know how much more $$ getting into the playoffs means.

I'm just hoping Fitz goes national. That seems like the only way we will be rid of his plague. He's like the bad guy in a movie who you know has his due coming to him, except this is real life and it almost never works out that way.

Mullin was ready to take McGee (uggh) until Randolph fell into his lap. Cohan only acts when it affect the bottom line to keep the sheep coming back to the games and paying inflated ticket prices.12 out of 14 years in the bottom 1/3 of payroll.

For whatever differences of opinion Sid and I might ever have, we are 100% on the same page on this one. Papa was great, and Fitz makes me insane. I wait anxiously for the day Barnett just turns to him and says, "Bob, just shut the hell up already."

I guess I'm the only one who hated Papa...not that Fitz is any better.

Mullin was about to draft McGee...says who?

That sounds like one of those unfounded rumors about us taking Yi (if only the Bucks hadn't fallen on that grenade). I don't buy it at all. Besides, the guy Mullin DID draft is great, so whats the point of even bringing it up?

The point is sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

Yeah, I believe he had it on good authority.

agreed that mully has undone many mistakes. i won't say it makes him good or bad at his job, but i will say that it's an excellent sign that he saw the mistakes & basically admitted to them by undoing them & improving the decision-making as he progresses.

he's made excellent trades, in that they are done with forethought & purpose, regardless of the popularity of the exiting players (the jamison move being perhaps the most notable in the long term).

jamison -> nve -> dale davis -> baron davis

mully cannot be overly criticized for the jrich deal because that move secured monta & ab for at least 5 more years. had jrich stayed, the w's would've likely had to part with monta or ab because of the lux tax.

cohan's never been cheap. the great majority of league owners don't pay (and don't want to pay) the lux tax, so i wouldn't hold that against him. but cc has made many an undeserving player very very rich. he was a victim of poor advising.

jason caffey, adonal foyle, danny fortson, troy murphy, mike dunleavy, jason richardson, antawn jamison, derek fisher, (and any other overpaid-for-their-talent free agent of the past) are among cohan's biggest fans. hopefully mags will be the only modern day addition to that list.

These questions are not resolved. Cohan could be cheaper and Mullin is not bad, but is Mullin good and will Cohan ever be willing to spend what it takes to win a championship?

This thread is for 100% facts, Hopper. Not likely situations which are not proveable. Just like our supposed interest in LeBron James (I don't buy it til Kamikaze writes about it).

We've been obscenely lucky in the past 2 drafts... much more so in 08 than 07, because we still could have had Noah in 07... Randolph drops to 14? The list of people ahead of him makes me laugh... Brook Lopez? Jason Thompson? Brandon Rush? Joe Alexander?

How did this happen?
