Marion now?

Jax and Al for one year of Marion

Not saying it's on the table, or ever was, but would you do it now that we should be playing youth?

Riley has to be serious about getting back into the playoffs after the last horrendous year. Marion is a damn good player with a bit of an attitude problem. But getting back 2 starter types, one being a good defender and the other stretching defenses, could be worth it to the Heat.

Jax and Al give Riley and Co. depth and versatility. Jax gives them another wing type with some ball handling and Al gives them a guy who can play 3 positions so he'd slide in better with Haslem, Wright, Beasley, and Blount.

Marion allows us to go from 2 vets to one which would open up minutes for Wright and Randolph to play even more. Now we know Nelli will have Marion playing major minutes, but he can go SF/ PF giving us a player that will rebound and run.

I'm not sure I care for Marion's tude, but maybe Amare is a prick. He (Amare) seems like a prima dona to me, so maybe that's some of the problem that led to Marion getting dealt. I still think it ruined the Suns' title hopes.

It would be a one year trial for Marion and now that we are in a different mode because of the Monta injury, I think it might be a way to grab a usefull player, who could be great, and evaluate him to see if he's worth talking contract with by the end of the year or next offseason.

I wasn't really down with him before, but considering our circumstances, I'd think hard about this one.

As you probably know, I've been pushing this deal for sometime and have gone back and forth with the Heat posters on the trade forum on numerous occasions. I'm not as high on it as I was when Baron ws here (Baron + Marion plus the reest of the guys would have put us in serious contention for at least the one year). I think you're right, it makes definite sense for them and perhaps they will get off their high horse (they thought that they could get more and that Marion had more trade value than it turns out) and now that they admit that Beasley's future is at Power Forward (and not small forward as they were claiming) they might change their tune.

Marion does give us fair value in return imo amd does allow us to move both Jack and Al and as long as we don't give him a long term deal (which will give us the ability to gain a lot of cap space for nextr season and beyond), I think it would be a good move. It will make us a better team (less likely able to do a significant tank) and givess a legitimate shot at the playoffs once more.

I'd only like him to flip him to some other team... maybe POR for LaFrentz and Rudy F, Outlaw, or Sergio... maybe even Steve Blake... :dontknow: Knicks could take him (D.Lee), Minnesota... MEM might want the expiring from him, and that could get us Darrell Arthur, possibly... still love that kid.

Would the Lakers trade him straight up for Odom? DEN for Iverson? CLE for Wally/Varejao/1st? I dont want the player... but if possible, there could be value in swinging him to a 3rd team...

Notice Amare taking swipes at D'Antoni now?

Me thinks there's more to the story.

Marion helps the Warriors in what way?

Marion...Odum...either is a big $ 1 year guy as is. If we think we can re-up either at some discount...that's an option to have. I'd rather have Marion than Odum,no question, but in a year where we figure to go nowhere ,what's to gain? Jax + Harrington are 2 starters X 2 years. Marion or Odum is one starter X 1 year. 1 year later....Marion becomes what? Cap space? Re-signed? Is it a gain or just more revolving door? Done well, Harrington + Jax for Marion + ? might work for us but we easily could botch it and have a net loss.

Well he gives us at least two things (4 if you think he makes us a better team):

1) He helps us move Jack and Al and their 2 year deals and
2) he recovers the cap space we gave up in our Maggette and Turiaf signings and places us in a good position to sign a decent Free Agent either next year or the year after.
3) He gives Nellie the star player he wamts in his last season and gives him the tool he needs to make a playoff run without hurting our long range plans (as long as we don't rework his contract).

I say that he makes us a better team this year and at the same time opens up a spot for the youth.

Do you think that

Williams/Livingston?/CJ
JacksonBukie/Belinelli
Maggette/Randolph/Morrow
Harrington/Wright/Hendrix
Biedrens/Turiaf/Perovic

is better than ?

Wiliams/Livingston?/CJ
Bukie/Belinelli/Maggette
Maggette/Randolph/Morrow
Marion/Wright/Hendrix
Biedrens/Turiaf

They are at least as good imo. In the second version you likely get more time for Randolph and one or two others of our youth.

If we pair Marion with Maggette, let's leave Andris in Latvia to prep for the European Championships and I can skip this season altogether.

Yeah, it's not possible that he could be our starting 2 guard even though he was our starting 2 coming into the season last year and held that position down for the first 11-12 games. It was possible last year,(due to Monta's injury and slow start) but there's no way the same thing could possibly happen again. I'm sorry I posted that.

Held down? We got smoked in most of those games. We came home 0-6 and beat the Clips, Raps and Knicks. It wasn't at all an impressive stretch. It was almost as terrible as the last 2 weeks of the season.

In light of Montas injury, and with the idea of going Youth Movement for this season and beyond, I think I'd make the deal.

With regard to Bukie at the 2...Run Him out there, but why not see what we've got in Belli.

Throw Him out there and let him sink or swim.

I'd like for the Warriors to get to the bottom of the Youth / Potential equation.

Let's get some solid data, and make future moves based upon a Large sample.

That's BS Sleepy. That's when we didn't have Jack and Monta wasn't producing. After the first 6 games when Jack came back, Bukie was still starting, and it wasn't until about the 11 or 12th game that he lost the position back to Monta. He actually started the first 13 games of the season for us and it wasn't until the 13th that Monta got his starting position back after Bukie shot only 3-10 but grabbed 10 rebounds). In the 7 games he started after Jack came back, we won 6 out of the 7.

It's amazing just how much negativity people have regarding certain players.

No one is being negative, Buike has a spark that's undeniable, J-Rich-esque ups, and has a role-player mentality. He's perfect for the bench as the 6th or 7th man, coming in when people are tired and bullying opposing guards on the boards, hitting wide open treys that tired guards can't run out on, and igniting the crowd with his energy. It's what we need in our bench, and I think that's why people were happy that we matched the Clips' offer. Despite Jack's recent shenanigans, he's still the key to our offense. Don't deny it, you know it, Nellie knows it, the FO knows it, but we want to act like we know better than the FO, and after all, basketball is a business. And we need to be in the business of winning games. Period.
