Draft - 2011

OK, the die is cast. Newton is the man and will be the one on whom the Panthers rely to carry them forward for the next 10-15 years. Has a very high ceiling, but he is a big risk as well. Gutsy call. Next question is "what do we do the rest of the draft to make this team better?" No 2nd thanks to the Armanti Edwards trade pick last year. We could really use #33 right now. Rumors the Panthers want to trade into the 2nd, but at what cost?

Talk about filling a need spot. Went 2 DT's in the 3rd. Both of them will see PT this season as we did not have anything there this past season. Solid. Fill in some other needs Mr. Hurney.

Good risk on the CB from W. Va. Like the WR pick although he does come with injury. But he is a good route runner and has great hands. like the UConn LB. The lineman late always help.
Overall, a solid Draft. But let's face it, the whole thing will be judged on how Cam Newton does for us. If he proves to be a solid passer from the pocket, then that only helps his scambling abilities and his running threat. JR is showing the heart of a gambler which is something he did not do before. I guess a 2-14 season will do that to you.
Think they get a Grade for this of C+/B- with a big *. If Cam turns out to be the QB they hope, then the draft becomes an A- at worse.

The draft is OK I think I have made it clear my opinion on Cam Newton (I just hope he isnt a JaMarcus Russell Clone), but I do like the two DT's and the CB selection I think these all address serious needs. I am really looking forward to some undrafted free agents being able to be signed though - I think some hard workers on the offensive line could be valuable and provide some much needed depth behind some healthy starters.

Just want to say thank god the lockout is over so the frantic off season can begin - All reports say Carolina have been busy early with the signing of undrafted free agents and if the reports linking the Panthers with Ryan Pugh and Kendric Burney are true I think both have a good shot at making the roster and contributing. Despite his size if Burney can develop into a player like Captain Munnerlyn as a fan I will be very happy.
