NFL Draft 2014

Post#1 » by jr lucosa » Tue May 6, 2014 2:49 pm

With the draft a couple nights away I thought it might be a good idea to start up this thread.

Most the mocks I've seen have us going OT or WR in the first round.

In his most recent mock Todd McShay has us taking Joel Bitonio out of Nevada, Mel Kiper says Morgan Moses.

NFL.com has 9 guys with 1st round mocks, those 9 have us picking...
Morgan Moses OT Virginia
Morgan Moses OT Virginia
Morgan Moses OT Virginia
Cyrus Kouandjio OT Alabama
Odell Beckham WR LSU
Brandin Cooks WR Oregon St
Brandin Cooks WR Oregon St
Odell Beckham WR LSU
Brandin Cooks WR Oregon St

Thoughts? Predictions? I would love Cooks if he fell to us but I have a feeling he'll be off the board before #28, I'm guessing we go OT in the first round and address WR in rounds 2 or 3.

Im guessing we take an OT, this draft is very deep at WR we can find a quality one in the 2nd round

Very happy with Kelvin Benjamin as the pick. Cam has a big target now to go with his TE. This kid is raw but has a very high ceiling. Good pick.

Size, and good speed. I just want to see him catch balls that Cam gets him, whereas LaFell just dropped way too many balls that were on target. Benjamin has to prove himself, but if he does, he can be a weapon the way Marshall was early on in his career. Benjamin also has to improve his route running. It is not horrible, but it can get much better. Cam likes a big target, which is why Olsen is such a favorite target. This bodes well for Benjamin as I think Cam will target him often.

I like the pick. Huge target who had a really productive season last year. I'm picturing the 2 TE sets with 6'5 Olsen and 6'4 Dickson and 6'5 Benjamin on the outside, that's a lot of height.

Kony Ealy DE from Missouri. GM is true to his word. A Blue Goose pass rusher and he got him. He is a first round talent taken at the end of the 2nd. Great value. Really surprised we did not take Moses but Ealy was higher up on the draft board so you take him. He will be great to learn behind our two starting DE's and if someone gets injured or walks after next year, we have a replacement.

Trai Turner, OG from LSU taken in the 3rd. Another good value selection.

“When I watched him, I thought I was watching a young Plaxico [Burress],” Gettleman said. “He’s a better athlete than people realize, he plays faster than a lot people think and he made some ‘OMG’ catches in the rookie minicamp. He’s talented, he has good focus, he learns well and it’s important to him. It’s really important to him.”

So far I am very pleased with Benjamin and the rest have been hit or miss. Never was a fan of the Ealy pick and still think Moses was the right guy there. Loved the Turner pick but it will take a little time for him to gel. I just really hope the mistakes at T don't get Cam crushed this season.

Yea i have been really happy with this class so far, Kelvin is really good, Turner did well in his first game, Bene had a fumble recovery, Ealy is good (i remember reading that a lot of people had him as a 1st round pick) not sure about Boston tho...and of course the RB the Pats stole that i didn't like that we drafted in the first place :nonono: but that might be a good thing because i think we got a better RB in Fozzy to be the #3 back

I will admit Kelvin has surprised me. His drop rate at FSU made me a little timid on that pick. I knew we needed a WR and he was huge but I was scared of his hands. He has shown me the fear was unwarranted. Ealy was a decent value where he was picked but Moses would have been a better value at that spot. The fact that he was a first round projection and a position we still desperately need to improve angered me when we passes. Moses would be starting for us right now IMO. The rest I am fine with. Loved the Turner pick because I thought it was good value and fit. Bene and Boston were fine picks that fit holes. Boston was a good center field guy for the Heels and he can hit. His injury has been frustrating though.

I hope Ealy proves me wrong because like every wanna be GM I have made some good calls of questioning picks and some bad ones. I also hope that I am wrong on Gettleman too.

We sure do hit 1st rounders. Except for Kalil we can't draft in the 2nd for ****. So many huge busts. We really needed Amini Silatolu to pull though, but it looks like he's joining that bust category.

Next year we need about 13 1st round picks to fix this team

No we need 2 OTs more than we need anything else. We currently have 0. We have to address the line and the secondary before anything else. We are so terrible at both right now there is no avoiding it.
