Barring an overnight miracle, it appears first-round pick Jon Beason will be the first Panthers rookie to hold out of training camp since Bruce Nelson in 2003.

This is frustrating. We need the guy in camp. It's time to get this done

This is why the NFL needs rookie scale contracts. :nonono:

Seriously, for sure though, we need this guy. I don't know what he's asking for but hopefully we can get him for a decent enough price. It's not like these draftees have as much leverage as they think they do.

hopefully we can sign him for a decent amount so we still can sign Julius Peppers and Jordan Gross to long term contracts.

Beason was on WFNZ today to talk about his holdout.

Apparently the Panthers put something in his contract that no other first rounder had to agree to. In addition there has been no contact between the sides since Thursday.

Something needs to get done and soon! Diggs went down this morning with a hamstring injury, so we're even thinner at LB.

What is this? Or do we not know?

apparently rookies have an option bonus in the 2nd year to spread out the signing bonus. But the team is on the hook for it if the player decides to holdout or gets suspended. So the team wants to do it in the 3rd year, when it isn't guaranteed and the amount is at the teams discretion.
