Same 'ol OL. Williams has surgery!

Bears first-rounder Williams has surgery
7:48 PM CDT, August 7, 2008

Associated Press wrote:Bears first-round draft pick Chris Williams had surgery to repair a herniated disk in his lower back either Wednesday or Thursday, team spokesman Scott Hagel said.

The 14th overall pick, Williams was expected to start at left tackle, but those plans went awry when he left the Bears' second practice because of stiffness. He's been sidelined ever since but remains on the 53-man roster.

Hagel said there is no connection between that injury and a minor back problem Williams experienced at Vanderbilt.

With Williams out, John St. Clair started at left tackle in the preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.

We're really in trouble.

Anyone know how serious this type of injury/procedure is? Is he out for awhile? This is really, really sad.

Herniated dsics are usually treated with light treatment. Cold and hot packs, steriods, change in daily activity, etc. Whenever its a surgery, its major. Ouch.

Time for the Lovie-imposed "red-shirt year".

See ya next year, Chris ! We could've used you.
Turn down for what?

Trade next year's #1 pick for the best backup LT you can find.
Nobody will give you their starter, but the best backup should get it done.

Leave Tait at RT.

If next year's #1` won't get it done, give them 2 years. JA can't handle a first round pick anyway.

Man this is ridiculous!

After watching our offense tonight, you could be talking about the 1st overall pick in the 2009 draft.

Doesn't matter. Give it to them anyway. We have to get a LT and Angelo can't make a decent 1st round pick anyway.

j/k - sort of.

Michael Oher!

**** it. I can deal with a rebuilding year. Just tank hard.

Could honestly be the worst offense ever assembled.

Brandon Lloyd #1 WR
Rex Grossman/Kyle Orton at QB
John St Clair & Metcalf on the OL.

Brutal.. just brutal.

You can't be serious. You don't trade #1 picks for backup offensive linemen. Especially when there is a decent chance that your team will suck.

Tommie Harris?

Though in general, I agree, the Bears are absolutely woeful in the 1st round. I've always hated their picks on draft day as well. Tommie Harris and Chris Williams were the only 1st rounders we've made on draft day under Angelo that I liked. Maybe Williams will turn it around after surgery, but needing back surgery prior to playing a game is a REAL bad sign. He could easily be a career bust prior to even stepping on the field, and that's horrible.

It makes you wonder if their medical staff was so incompetent that they missed it or whether they just got really poor luck.

Beekman looked sick at LG
RT is a better fit for JTait

Im concerned about LT, but JA will most likely make a deal like the DWalker one
We have plenty of picks and young talent to work with if picks arent enough

I dont want St Clair or Metcalf starting

LT?? Beekman Kreutz Garza Tait-----------will be more than solid; we have some real nice young scrappy backups

The pass protection was flawless and all 4 backs got off on Thursday
relax my friends
