Its not too difficult to game plan for Rex.
Just spend a little time practicing fumble recoveries and blocking for interception returns.

I think that this is a good thing. Orton's going to be fine but they were getting to far away from establishing the run. Now Forte becomes the man, the defense wakes the hell up and when Orton comes back we should be ready to roll in the playoffs.

There hasn't been anything official yet. It is possible that he's out just a couple weeks, or even less.

Orton update: MRI shows no ligament tear
Bears vague, but source says Orton out 3 to 4 games
By Vaughn McClure | Tribune staff reporter
9:51 PM CST, November 3, 2008
The Bears might have to play two NFC North games without their emerging quarterback.

An MRI confirmed quarterback Kyle Orton has a high right ankle sprain, and Orton was told Monday the injury would sideline him three to four weeks, according to a source. The MRI exam revealed no ligament tear, the source said.

Orton will miss Sunday's showdown against the undefeated Tennessee Titans as well as a Nov. 16 date with division rival Green Bay at Lambeau Field. After a Nov. 23 game at St. Louis, he could be back in time for a Nov. 30 game at Minnesota if he heals within the three-week window.

Orton was relieved the injury wasn't more serious.

"I'm not playing doctor; you shouldn't either," Smith said about Orton's injury. "You should let us"come and tell you once we know for sure exactly what the injury is. We're hopeful, I'll just say that."

Smith added there were no immediate plans to add a veteran quarterback.

According to Stephania Bell, ESPN's injury analyst, it is common to conduct extensive testing on a high ankle sprain to make sure there is no fracture. But even without a fracture, a high ankle sprain could be a concern.

"The problem with the high ankle sprain is that every time we take a step, there is stress placed across the ligaments (that join the two lower leg bones) that form the roof of the ankle joint, stress that would tend to stretch or widen the roof," Bell said. "If the roof continues to widen, then you get instability ... and ultimately lead to an arthritic condition.

"One of the things they look at with high ankle sprains is how 'wide' that roof has become. If it's not that bad, then it's treated conservatively with a boot. If too wide, it becomes a surgical situation."

From the looks of things, it doesn't appear too bad for Orton. But the Bears still have to adjust to life without him.

Rex Grossman performed admirably in his place, but Orton was one of the hottest quarterbacks in the NFL prior to the injury. Going into the Lions game, Orton was tied for fourth in touchdown passes since Week 3 with 10, trailing only Philip Rivers, Brett Favre and Drew Brees.

"Hopefully he misses a minimum amount of time," tight end Desmond Clark said. "He was playing at an elite level."

As for Brown, his calf injury was initially thought to be a cramp. He left Soldier Field with a protective boot in hand, but he told teammates the injury wasn't serious.

Given Brown's injury history, the Bears have grown accustomed to playing without him. Rookie Craig Steltz stepped in against the Lions and recorded a game-changing interception. The Bears also recently signed Terrence Holt as insurance.

But the Bears might find it hard to replace Brown's field leadership if he misses any action.

"No one can fill Mike's shoes," defensive end Israel Idonije said. "Mike's a playmaker for us. But at the end of the day, if he can't go, someone has to step up."

Now that's some good reporting.
It would be nice to have the packers have to gameplan for 2 QB styles:

1. Calm and poised
2. Kinda Mavericky

I seriously doubt that he would play against the Titans. Even if he's feeling well the coaching staff would want to rest him. If he could play the following week and lead us to victory over the Packers, I would love him forever.

But from now on Orton has to be more careful about running the ball. I remember one play against Carolina I think he dove headfirst into 2 defenders while trying to pick up the first down. I really liked it at the time because it showed heart and Orton wasn't that good, but now he's to valuable to be risking his health for a first down.

It looks like the great neckbeard wants to play this week vs. Tennessee. I'd like to see him sit and get some rest. Then we could attempt to win the game with Defense, running game, and a non-disaster Rex.

This really gives me hope that he can play next week vs the Pack.

On that note call me crazy but I'm sensing an upset this week. Tennesse is due for a loss, and their strength of running the ball plays into our strenth of stopping the run. If we can get 1 big play on special team (please Hester for the love of God) we have a real chance to pull the upset.

Orton looks like he is playing as I said last week this is a cha ching game for him. If all it is is a ankle sprain I dont see why he misses a game for that because football players just dont sit out games with a twisted ankle .You tape up and get ready to go.Maybe a RB or a WR if its severe enough but otherwise you are taping up playing.

This is lessoned learned for Kyle to throw it away and dont take the hit. Especially not in the first half. ...

If he's suited up, that'll get our Offense jacked up, but more importantly, our Defense. To see him gut it out, would be huge. A win of course, and next thing you know...

The sig bet is emperor believes Aaron Gray will be the Bulls' starting center by 12/31/08. We're talking regular starting center here, Doug. No spot starts! I was clear on this!

As much as I love the Bears, I really, really don't want to lose the avatar bet as I've seen what emperor has been looking at and it's not pretty.

Hmm, Avatar bet looks close, the sig bet I think is in your favor (despite Gray's start against the Suns). Gray has played terribly so far this season. If he's the regular starter than Del Negro should be kicked squa in the nuts.

The Bulls need to stop starting their crap.
