JA said as much at the end of the season. When asked if MB would be returning he said said Mike Brown is a smart football player that definitely has a future in the league. I took that to mean he was 'bout to get cut.

I actually think its a good move. As much as I like MB (going down as one of my all time fav Bears and 2nd fav db to Doug Plank), he had obviously lost a big step.

So does this change our draft outlook or are we going safety in FA? I think FA because we already have a young secondary and need veteran leadership back there.

He didn't get cut, he is an unrestricted free agent and the Bears simply won't pursue signing him. As much as I have loved MB, it's time to move on. You can't count on the guy being healthy, and Urlacher/Briggs should bring all the leadership the D needs.

We need to draft a safety in the first 3 rounds.

I was hoping we'd just let him look around and he'd give the Bears the courtesy of possibly matching the best offer considering how patient we've been with him....
Turn down for what?

Good luck to Mike Brown. He has been my favorite Bear over the years. I will miss him not playing in a Bears uniform.

Wow, I have very fond memories of Mike Brown. Mainly his insane clutch multiple interception games in 2000 against the Browns and the 49ers. I will root for whatever team he plays for...unless it is the Packers, Vikings, or Lions.

I'm betting that #30 from Nebraska still has some good football left in him. Is it just me or does he seem like exactly the kind of guy the Patriots would bring in...

2001 was such a fun year because of how unexpected it was, and Mike Brown was the biggest part of that.

I have to say i am not surprised the Bears decided to but MB. With all the injuries over the years it was time to let him go. It is a shame though because when he is healthy he is a great asset to the team. I talked to Jason McKie the other day about the Bears decision to let him go. Jason said they will miss Brown but what was the most shocking is that I I was the one who broke the news to him that John Tait was out as well. He feels that John's absence is really going to be felt by the team. Here is the link to my interview if you want to check it out. He also talks about the Bears possibility of drafting Vontay Davis from Illinois.
