Oh, man, per Risdon....

...the Bears became just the second team in the last 20 years to fail to net even one first down via the run in Sunday's blowout loss to Minnesota.

And there's your 7-9 season.

A month later, my Nov 1st predictions are looking pretty good.

I'd like to take back at least two of those win predictions though. :nonono:

Can we get Ditka out of coaching retirement?

Also, can someone please post a list of unrestricted free agents for this upcoming off season? I'm just looking for a shred of hope.

Also, it's time to start playing some young guys. Gilbert, Iglesias, DJ Moore, and anyone else under the age of 25.

Didn't we sign Orlando Pace to a 2 year deal? Jesus

I always have used scout.com as my resource for free agents - I don't think they've updated it for 2010 yet, though.

Pace was signed to a $15m/3yr deal. His 2009 cap number is $5,333,333. :banghead:
Omiyale was signed to a $14m/4yr deal. His 2009 cap number is $4,950,000. :banghead:
Shaffer was signed to a $8m/3yr deal. His 2009 cap number is $2,383,000. :banghead:

Most likely, any of those guys could be cut without a big cap hit, so its not a big deal. Shaffer I think is a good option at backup RT and as bad as Omilaye sucks he isn't as bad at pass blocking as run blocking so as a backup LT, he's not a terrible guy either, and he would likely have the largest cap hit since I think his bonus was large.

Also as far as having the pay Love and Angelo, hopefully if we bring in a big name coach, they will want to be GM and coach, so we can replace both jobs with one salary.

That is true - the hit would only amount to the unamortized bonus $ so I believe we're talking about less than a million cap hit for each if they're cut. Omiyale in particular has been an incredible waste of money this year - one of Angelo's worst signings.

Hub Arkush says that the team was inquiring about bringing in Cowher. Oh man, that would be sweet.

Would love to see Cower come in and switch us to a 3-4. Maybe then Anderson and Adams could earn their paychecks on the outside with Urlacher and Briggs as ILBs.

I'd love to see us switch to a zone blocking scheme as well. I say bring in Cowher and hire Kyle Shanahan as OC. Probably not gonna happen, but I can dream.

Lets just say completely **** it and bring in Kyle Shanahan as our Head Coach. It will be fun to see someone who looks like a High Schooler in charge of our team.

For me it all starts at the top .I blame Angelo we cant keep saying we need a massive talent infusion and then blame the coach . Where is our young developing talent on the defensive side of the ball ?

Odd stat: The Bears averaging 85.1 rushing yards in 2009, lowest in NFL. But they have 5 different players with 400+ receiving yards, the most in NFL

Good news and bad news on the Cowher front if you believe John Clayton. From Biggs' :

The Bears held a high level meeting at Halas Hall last week after a report was made that the club had extended back channel feelers to Bill Cowher to gauge his interest in potentially coming on board in 2010. Eventually, the brass in the building decided the best response for the club to have was no response at all, so the organization has remained silent on the issue.

Someone has spoken up now. ESPN's John Clayton went the other way and said it wasn't accurate in an appearance on WMVP-1000 this afternoon.

"Literally, about two minutes ago I was just talking to someone about this in the Bill Cowher camp,'' Clayton said. "And that is 100 percent inaccurate. No reaching out to Bill Cowher and no reaching out to Bill Cowher representatives, friends or anything of that nature. And Bill has made it known that he doesn't want to affect any current coach, whether it is an interim coach or a head coach, who is under a contract until the end of the season because he wants to be true to all the coaches that are currently coaching.

"There is no contact or illusion of a contact. Nut I will tell you this factually, he is interested in two jobs: one being the Chicago Bears, and the other being the Houston Texans. Both would have to open for that to happen but he is interested. But in the end there hasn't happened anything that would give him any indication that he would be contacted."

In a way, it seems as if we're dealing with semantics here. No, the Bears haven't reached out to Cowher. But, yes, he'd be interested in the job if and when Lovie Smith no longer holds the job. That's been out there for a while, that Cowher would have interest in the Bears or Texans. It's a moot point, though, unless there is an opening. Remember, Dave Wannstedt went 4-12 in 1997 and returned to post an identical 4-12 record in 1998. Dick Jauron went 4-12 in 2002 and returned to go 7-9 in 2003. In each instance, the Bears kept their coach until they had to pay him off for only one remaining season. Smith is signed through 2011.

He's there for the taking if we're willing to eat Lovie's contract but apparently we have sent out feelers yet as rumored.

Well, I have the distinct feeling the Texans job is opening up after the season.

And I just don't see the Bears making a head coaching change. Then again, I never thought they'd pull the trigger on Cutler.

Some good ammo for those that want to start revamping the team starting with Angelo from today's S-T Potash article :

An inability to identify offensive talent: Jerry Angelo has a blind spot for offensive players. In nine seasons with the Bears, the offense has ranked 26th, 29th, 28th, 32nd, 29th, 15th, 27th, 26th and 23rd. (And in 14 years with Tampa Bay, the Bucs' offense was in the bottom half of the NFL every season.) Angelo has yet to draft an offensive player who has made the Pro Bowl. In fact, Ruben Brown is the only offensive player he has ever acquired who has made the Pro Bowl.

Those are just damning facts there anyway you cut it.
