Love the people that point to the fact that Phillip Rivers played a playoff game with a torn ACL. First off, Rivers had multiple surgeries during the week to combat this problem. Second, Rivers was completely awful in this game. They would have been better off having Billy Volek in.

For those that are questioning why Cutler didn't get a cortisone shot, he can't because he has type 1 diabetes.

Also, note to Maurice Jones-Drew: Shut up. Didn't you miss the last 2 games of the year with an injury when your team was fighting for a playoff spot?

I think it was an "appearance" thing more than anything else. I was an almost completely impartial observer, no dog in this fight, and have nothing against Cutler whatsoever. Just a football fan watching the NFC championship game between storied rivals for the right to play in the Super Bowl, by far the biggest sporting event in America. The Holy Grail of American sports.

Cutler's behavior, especially on the sidelines, was just emotionally incongruous to me as an experienced and impartial fan watching the game. I could not help but be struck by that. I didn't need anyone to tell me that it was odd. It was. It was not the appearance that one would expect given the momentous implications of the game, especially from the QB of the team who is all but by definition the leader of the team, emotionally and by example.

I'm not rabid about this, nor wish to pile on heavily, especially in some of the ways that are being expressed. But, nonetheless, I do think it is a relevant observation. A pretty impartial one from one fan who has watched the game for decades.

They're saying Grade 2 MCL tear which is a 3-4 week injury.

If I was a Bears fan, I wouldn't give a damn about how he looked on the sidelines. If he was rooting for the team and helping Hanie and by all acounts he was but looked miserable (he probably was since an injury took him out of the game) then there shouldn't be a problem.

Do I like Cutler? No
Do I think he's a prick? Yes
Will I question his toughness because of a sprained MCL? No. None of yall were there. The media wasnt there. Derrick Brookes, Deion Sanders, MJD werent there. No one is right in this argument.
And I dont even like Cutler, and im standing up for him.

And for what god awful reaosn Maurice Jones-Drew is talking trash for. Who knows. He for sure hasnt won anything. And Kirk Morrison? What has he done in the NFL?

Clearly Jay is telling Todd "you suck" here because he's Jay Cutler and he couldn't possibly be helping him.

....And Maurice Jones-Drew's starting QB (David Gerrard) sat out the last game of the season, with the Jags (no pun intended) still in contention for a Playoff spot.

1) Why was he standing on the sideline? If the knee is hurt, shouldn't he be getting treatment or icing or something?

2) Why wasn't he holding a clipboard and helping the backups with game planning? This is generally very common for starting QBs to do when a back-up (especially) an inexperienced guy like Hanie is in the game.

3) Why weren't there any clips of him yelling at the training staff and/or coaches to try and get back in the game?

It doesn't really make sense because he got the s*** kicked out of his this year with that Swiss cheese offensive line. So, to question whether he was really injured seems wrong. But, the whole thing is rather odd.

Maybe if the Bears were more interested in PR instead of trying to win the DAMN game, they would have put a fake cast on Cutler or gave him crutches or had an ambulance come to the sideline to perform CPR on him or.......nevermind.

Hey, I'm not a doctor. But, I would think that the more serious a leg injury, the less likely you would want to put weight on the leg without some support (cast) or crutches or icing or something. I could be wrong, but I find it hard to believe that someone with a torn MCL couldn't hurt his knee more by walking around on it on an icy slippery field (even the sidelines are slippery).

It's nice to be a Cutler apologist and I agree that the piling on of Jay Cutler has been too much. But, something is just odd about the whole thing.

What's really interesting is the power of the media. If a couple of local Chicago writers actually liked the guy, there would be tons of articles posted to the AP highlighting how it was a team decision to bench him, that he wasn't given a choice, that they felt with a torn MCL that their best chance to win was with Collins. But, since he has pissed off all the local media, those articles are few and far between.

Like I posted in response to you earlier, I'm sorry that the Bears PR guys didn't "produce" the sideline movie well enough to satisfy you. I guess they won't be winning the Oscar this year.

How come no one is looking at it from this point of view: Jay Cutler wasn't on crutches and didn't lay on the ground and play up his injury because he's a tough S.O.B. that doesn't want people to know he's injured? Maybe the pain he felt limping around would have made other players call for the cart?

And my God, if I hear another person obsessing over the fact that he went out to dinner with his girlfriend that night (something I think every one of us here would do, among other things to girlfriend :) ) I'm going to punch a Packer fan. And OMG! He walked up the stairs!! Clearly he wasn't injured enough to play quarterback! :(

Cutler is a tough SOB but sooner or later with all this hate it's going to get to him. The man clearly needs help on offense and the Packers know exactly how to destroy us offensively. Every time they get to Cutler early we've seen him play poorly. They need to get this man a offensive line and he will be an elite QB.

Cutler is one of the toughest quarterbacks in the NFL. has taken waaaaaay more hits than any other quarterback over the last two years and missed only one game (because of a concussion that he suffered when his line failed to block anyone in the first half). He is also one of few quarterbacks who doesn't slide after a run cause a defender is near by, but puts his head down and finishes runs.

He can make all the throws and is one of the most talented quarterbacks in the NFL. He just needs linemen that block and receivers that go for the ball instead of letting it come to them.
