Hillenmeyer Denied Benefits

Post#1 » by GetBuLLish » Sun Jan 29, 2012 4:56 pm

This subject and this story in particular really pisses me off. Hunter Hillenmeyer's career was ended because of concussions. Every doctor, including the Bears' neurologist, have come to the same conclusion: he should not play football anymore. Nevertheless, the Bears refuse to pay him the $900,000 he is owed, due to having his career ended by an NFL related injury.

This Trib story is really a great read. I highly recommend it.

"It makes me sick to see (the league) claim it is driving concussion research and putting player safety first. The whole system is designed to do one thing: make owners money. The fact that a case as black and white as mine can't even get resolved is indicative of a much, much deeper truth. Owners know what the game is doing to players, but once they fully acknowledge it, the gig is up."

Thanx for the info, GetBuLLish. I think that the Bears are caught in the middle of a tug-of-war between the NFLPA & the NFL, concerning how to handle concussions. If you think about it, every player to ever play the game in the NFL kinda has a claim regarding the after-effects of head trauma.

***PS, you're one the regular posters here. Are you gonna get in on our Superbowl game?

Definitely seems like the Bears are kind of caught in the middle. But to me, it's just not right how Hillenmeyer (and others) are being treated.

I just checked out that game and it seems really cool. Unfortunately, I'm just really not into any fantasy type games. I stopped fantasy NFL and NBA about five years ago. What really made me dislike fantasy was watching Bears games with friends and seeing them cheer for opposing teams for fantasy reasons. And it was especially infuriating when this happened against the Packers.

But this Superbowl games is obviously different since it's specifically Bears themed. So it is definitely better than fantasy, to me. But I just really suck at picking players across positions. That was another reason I stopped playing fantasy. And adding salary concerns just takes me outside of my capabilities haha.

I do want to see people play in that game so I can see who people pick. And I will second guess and criticize (perhaps not publicly) those picks 8-)

 I understand. It's my first time EVER playing anything like this, so I'm a little lost also. I guess that Emp was trying to liven up things for us, since it's not that many of us that are regular posters. IIRC, you've been here since I began here, so I figured that I would just ask you to join in with us. Like I said earlier, I understand.
