To the surprise of absolutely no one:

Zach Zaidman ‏ @ZachZaidman
#Bears have placed franchise tag on Matt Forte

First the releasing of Adams & Frank OMG, then the franchising of Forte. I'm ready for the next move.

I need for Miami to trade us Brandon Marshall  .

Well I can't say I didn't see that coming. Hopefully they can work out a long term deal because we need Forte.

I may be in the minority, but I don't think the Bears really do need Forte.

The Bears might have to pay more in a long-term contract for Forte now because of the contracts Lynch and Foster got.

You are not boss, running backs are dime a dozen IMO. I'd rather get cheap enough options and run a rotation then spend big time money on such a short life span position. Forte is very talented and I love his grit, but it's a business. History tells us the appropriate age and life span for running backs, and to ignore that by dishing out long term contracts without taking that into account is irresponsible.
