Welcoming players back to Halas Hall Monday for the start of the Bears’ voluntary offseason program, coach Lovie Smith proved the old adage that a picture is worth a thousand words.
Near the end of a team meeting, Smith delivered a powerful message by showing a photo on a large video screen of the Louisiana Superdome, site of Super Bowl XLVII next February.
“I talked about some of the special guys that we had in the room and [how] sometimes in order to really validate some careers of the great players we have, you have to finish up with the ring,” Smith said. “That’s what it’s all about."
“We talked to them about the group and how special it was and that we’re capable of doing that. We talked about having our best group of men this time of year all assembled together."
While some players had been working out at Halas Hall in recent weeks, many saw their teammates Monday for the first time in more than three months.
