The bottom line is that he is a very fast TE with good hands and a willing pass-blocker mentality. He does need to get stronger and become more mature. He will add good depth and versatility to our team. If he is willing to put in the work, he could be a Pro-Bowler for us.

Here is what an NFL front office man told me about Bears fourth round pick Evan Rodriguez: "Good player. Good hands. Athletic. Good willingness to block. Good on perimeter blocks. Good after catch. He will drop because of character concerns."

If this is correct, then we picked two talented players that slipped because of separate concerns: a safety in the 3rd (injury concerns) & a FB/TE in the 4th (character concerns).

.......At least I hope this is true.

Recent (brief) Star-Ledger article on Rodriguez:

Sees the Aaron Hernandez comparison as valid and learning from his mistakes. One can only hope.

Sean Jensen
#Bears TE Evan Rodriguez has a 36-inch vertical, but he had just 18 reps on the bench press. He was the top performer at the Combine in 3-cone drill, 20-yard shuttle and 60-yard shuttle

Feeling a little better about this if he can get his head straight.

Saying all the right things to the media now. Now do as you say, my man.

Evan Rodriguez: "Basically with my character, we all make mistakes. They believed in me. I am not going to let them down."

that's 6 starters/bigtime contributors! wow

Someone on the Draft board mentions that the Bengals draft always just looks like Kiper's best available. Haha. How much do you trust Mel?

Bastards took Still and Thompson at DT ?? MFers. Wanted both those guys on the Bears DT rotation.

What the heck are we gonna do at DT this year? Maybe we're going to sign Albert Haynesworth?? We have very little now.

^^^^^Looking like we're gonna kick Idonije inside when McClellin lines up at end :dontknow: .

Regarding OT:
South Florida Sun-Sentinel - The Dolphins drafted Stanford lineman Jonathan Martin in the second round of the NFL Draft, the latest sign that Jake Long may not be long for Miami.

"The more I do the calculations, the more it seems Jake Long is about to get caught in the vortex of this sweeping Dolphins overhaul," writes Mike Berardino of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

"It might not happen this offseason, but the massive left tackle -- whose massive contract runs out after next season -- is on shaky ground just the same.

Even that leaves us short. We had 6 DTs last year. Adams & Paea rotated being inactive. So we really need 5 active DTs. Right now we have 3. I just don't get not resigning Okoye.

I seems that the FO simply didn't want Okoye, considering we signed several players after he signed elsewhere. I wish that I knew the inside scoop on this mystery.

I'm calling it now. I got mixed up and we get James Brown in the 6th.

I wouldn't mind the following here:

James Brown, G - Troy
Emmanuel Acho, OLB - Texas
Brett Roy. DT - Nevada

Who knows what Emery will do though.

No DT or OL in the draft. Maybe they're anticipating some good players getting cut in camp.

I'm unsure about their plans at DT, but I'm starting to believe that our O-Line is better than we think.

IMHO, it seems that there was a serious battle going on behind the scenes involving the Tice/Cutler/Lovie camp versus the Martz/Angelo camp. For the new FO to stand pat with last year's O-Line tells me that there were some internal problems regarding offensive philosophy these last two seasons. It's possible that the Martz system made our O-Line look worse than what it actually was.

I trust Mike Tice when it comes to the O-Line & we have to remember that he's showcasing himself to the rest of the league as a new OC. I just don't believe he would allow Lovie & Emery to put him at an early disadvantage. He knows that his offensive scheme WILL NOT work if our O-Line is inept. He would be a laughingstock around the NFL if an offense of Cutler, Marshall, Jeffery, Forte, & Bush did not succeed.

I've heard zero buzz so far on the undrafted college free agents so far. If I'm a DT or OT and I want a legit shot at a job, I'm telling my agent to give the Bears a call for a camp invite.
