Ballard and Barrett have a combined 47 years of experience in pro scouting, administrative tasks and coaching. In other front office moves, Kevin Turks and Dwayne Joseph will serve as assistant directors of pro scouting. Turk enters his 11th season with the Bears, fifth as assistant director of pro personnel. Joseph has spent the last eight seasons working with the Miami Dolphins.
Former Midwest area scout Jeff Shiver moves to a new role as executive scout/assistant director of college scouting, where he’ll focus on the Big Ten Conference. Rex Hogan and Mark Sadowski will work as national scouts, evaluating the West and East Regions, respectively.
Ted Monago moves to a role as executive scout, and will focus on the Southeastern Conference.
James Kirkland, Kent Kahl, Sam Summerville and Francis Saint-Paul will work as area scouts. Kahl joins the club after working as a regional scout with the San Francisco 49ers. Saint-Paul moves into an NFL front office role after working the last five years as a coach at Northern Arizona. Summerville joins the Bears personnel department after serving as a player personnel assistant for the Cleveland Browns from 2009-12.
