The Chicago Bears introduced Phil Emery on Monday as the franchise's fifth general manager.

With 14 years of NFL experience, Emery spent the last three years at Kansas City, as its director of college scouting. Emery's return to Chicago marks his second stint with the franchise. Emery worked as an area scout for the club from 1998-2004, and during that period the Bears drafted Pro Bowlers such as linebackers Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs, in addition to cornerback Charles Tillman.

Other Pro Bowl selections during Emery's first stint in Chicago included receiver Marty Booker, kick returner Jerry Azumah, safety Mike Brown, defensive tackle Tommie Harris, and cornerback Nathan Vasher.

Oh my god. I want to slit my wrists listening to this guy. He's like a boring Jerry Angelo without the Angeloisms. :o

Jeez- he just highlighted the 2005 Atlanta draft as one of his proudest, specifically the Roddy White and Michael Boley picks. I checked out that draft class in full.....they took FRANK OMIYALE in Round 5.

AHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

“It’s an honor and privilege to represent this great franchise,” Emery said. “I’m very pumped up about this opportunity to lead this franchise.

“I have been here before and that was a great experience. The people in this building have a true passion for winning. I’m proud to be right back in the thick of it, in the quest to win championships.

“We want people to have a passion for the Bears.”

He also said he is excited to work with coach Lovie Smith, and noted that he will trust the coaching staff to Smith.

“I’m excited to be around him and his staff as we build toward championships,” Emery said. “I have a very good feel for where this team is at. This team has a very good core of play-making players.

“My job moving forward ... is to continue to build this team so that we can be consistent winners and consistently be in the hunt to win championships.”

Emery said his way of grading players is different from Angelo.

“I’m a very different person than Jerry,” Emery said. “I worked with Jerry, and I respect him but we both come from different backgrounds.”

Emery said he’ll be bringing in the “Patriot” scouting system, although he made clear it’ll have tweaks.

“I have full control [of the 53-man roster],” he said.

Emery praised quarterback Jay Cutler and linebacker Brian Urlacher.

“He’s a player who is still making plays. I know that,” he said of Urlacher.

Even worse, Emery might keep him to provide "depth" on the o-line.

*BUMP*

Emery's new FO team appears to be set:

The Chicago Bears announced changes Tuesday to the organizational structure of the club’s personnel department, with longtime scout Chris Ballard taking on the role of director of pro scouting and Marty Barrett receiving the title of director of college scouting.
......................................................................

Ballard and Barrett have a combined 47 years of experience in pro scouting, administrative tasks and coaching. Ballard worked the last 11 seasons as an area scout, where he evaluated the Southwest region. Ballard worked seven seasons prior to joining the Bears (1994-200) as a coach at Texas A&M-Kingsville

In other front office moves, Kevin Turks and Dwayne Joseph will serve as assistant directors of pro scouting. Turk enters his 11th season with the Bears, fifth as assistant director of pro personnel. Joseph has spent the last eight seasons working with the Miami Dolphins.

Former Midwest area scout Jeff Shiver moves to a new role as executive scout/assistant director of college scouting, where he’ll focus on the Big Ten Conference. Rex Hogan and Mark Sadowski will work as national scouts, evaluating the West and East Regions, respectively.

Ted Monago moves to a role as executive scout, and will focus on the Southeastern Conference.

James Kirkland, Kent Kahl, Sam Summerville and Francis Saint-Paul will work as area scouts. Kahl joins the club after working as a regional scout with the San Francisco 49ers. Saint-Paul moves into an NFL front office role after working the last five years as a coach at Northern Arizona. Summerville joins the Bears personnel department after serving as a player personnel assistant for the Cleveland Browns from 2009-12.

I hope Ted Monago knows what he's doing. The SEC is where we it's at.
