SUPERBOWL GAME II - RULES

Post#1 » by emperorjones » Tue Jan 22, 2013 6:34 pm

Bears Board Superbowl II Game
(RULES ONLY-DON'T POST YOUR RESULTS)

Here's the start of Bears Board Superbowl II – A game where you play Bear’s GM in an effort to get them to the Superbowl at the end of the 2013 season.
(Also, this game is an attempt to take us through this time until the combine, free agency & the draft) - It's the Bears Super Bowl Game! How to play?

You've just been picked as the Bears new GM because Phil Emery had a nervous breakdown after selecting the Bears new coaching staff.

You have a base of $14 million to spend under the cap in 2013 and about $50 million in 2014. Your goal is the Superbowl next season (2012/13) without killing the future of the team (you don’t want to have to blow the team up in 2014).

Using extra cap in 2014, you will be able to sign current players to extensions and increase 2013’s cap number, but doing so will hinder your long term cap situation (management doesn’t like this)

Steps:

List the specific moves you will make to get the Bears to the Super Bowl in 2014 with: 1) your own free agents (resigning & releases) 2) specific signings in free agents off the open market and 3) Specific draft picks for each round of the draft.

You have the following free agent decisions to make on your roster that will increase or decrease you cap space:

Henry Melton, DT, Bears. Age: 26.
Henry Melton is one of the top interior pass-rushers in all of football. He could stand to be better against the run, but he deserves a big contract after getting to the quarterback more effectively than Julius Peppers.

Israel Idonije, DE, Bears. Age: 32.
Israel Idonije is coming off a fantastic season in terms of getting to the quarterback (7.5 sacks) and stopping the run. He'll be 33 in November, however.

Brian Urlacher, ILB, Bears. Age: 35.
Based on the way he played last year, Brian Urlacher probably deserves 1.5 stars. He was terrible. However, he was hurt throughout, so maybe he can recover and be at least an OK starter again.

Nick Roach, OLB, Bears. Age: 28.
Nick Roach hasn't been a liability as a starting linebacker, but Chicago can do better.

Nate Collins (RFA), DT, Bears. Age: 25.
D.J. Moore, CB, Bears. Age: 26.
Kelvin Hayden, CB, Bears. Age: 30.
Jason Campbell, QB, Bears. Age: 31.
Lance Louis, G, Bears. Age: 28.
Johnny Knox, WR, Bears. Age: 26.
Geno Hayes, OLB, Bears. Age: 26.
Chris Spencer, C, Bears. Age: 31.
Jonathan Scott, OT, Bears. Age: 30.
Amobi Okoye, DT, Bears. Age: 26.
Zackary Bowman, CB, Bears. Age: 28.
Kahlil Bell, RB, Bears. Age: 26.
Josh McCown, QB, Bears. Age: 34.
Chilo Rachal, G, Bears. Age: 27.
Olindo Mare, K, Bears. Age: 40.
Troy Nolan (RFA), S, Bears. Age: 26.

You can extend the following Probowl players:

Charles Tillman – extending him saves $2.5 million
Brandon Marshall – extending him saves $2.5 million

RULE CHANGE: Management is giving permission to cut certain players under contract and save half of his listed cap number on your 2013 cap.

Effects of Cuts on your Cap:

Julius Peppers – cutting him saves $8.1 million on your 2013 cap.

Devin Hester - cutting him saves$2.1 million on your 2013 cap.

Matt Spaeth - cutting him saves$2.1 million on your 2013 cap.

Kellen Davis - cutting him saves$2.5 million on your 2013 cap.

Remaining Roster:

For simplicity sake, for the rest of the roster, cutting a player will save you half their Cap Hit number listed below on your cap. I realize that this is no where close to being how these numbers are figured out, but I spent 3 days trying to get this info and make it simple and decided that for now I can’t. So will go with this for now – update pending.

For free agent signings on the open market, use this list of free agents:

http://walterfootball.com/freeagents.php

Marquee Free Agent signings cost this:

Cornerback: $10.668
Defensive End: $10.984
Defensive Tackle: $8.306
Kicker/Punter: $2.926
Linebackers: $9.455
Offensive Line: $9.660

Tight End: $5.962
Wide Receiver: $10.357

5 stars free agents get the listed "Franchise" number above, then 75% at 4-4.5 stars, 50% at 3-3.5 stars, 25% at 2-2.5 stars, 15% at 1.5 stars and $1M for all 1 star players. Restricted Free agents are not eligible, otherwise assume every other free agent has the Bears as their first choice.

BRIAN URLACHER NOTE: Brian Urlacher is rated as a 2.5 star player, but his agent has let you know that while they realize he is not the 4-5 star player he once was, he will not sign unless he is paid $5 million over 2 years ($10million total).

BIG RULE CHANGE FOR 2013:

Since judging turned out to be a bit more difficult than I anticipated last year, I am making a big change this year. This year, Emperorjones will not be competing. Rather, this year Emperorjones will play the role of management/owner. Judging will occur like this:

1. GM Contestants will vote for each other (A peer evaluation selecting the top 3)
2. Fans (Bulls & Bears board will vote) – this vote will not be dispositive
3. Iceness (hopefully) will be kind enough to give a talent evaluation on each of the top 3 GMs
4. Ownership (Emperorjones), taking into account 2 & 3 along with his own opinion, will select which GM gets the long term contract and is the winner of the game.

I'm going to do this by rounds in different posts. So you will post your own Free Agent signings in the first thread, Free market free agents in the second, and draft picks in the 3rd round. Once you post in a following round you cannot revise/edit previous rounds.
