Lovie Smith Appreciation

Post#1 » by The Explorer » Mon Dec 31, 2012 4:30 pm

Smith was a really good head coach with this team, going 81-63 in his career. He was excellent at coaching defense for 9 years, and the the players loved him and defended him in a way that i've never seen with other head coaches, even in other sports. Hopefully he gets another job real soon. Good luck to him.

I'm going to miss Lovie he was great coach for the Bears for 9 years but it was time for a change I wish him well maybe he can go in the booth somewhere.

Bittersweet.

Bitter: Lovie is a good coach and a great man. His players just loved him and really got behind him because he treated them like men and held them accountable. Cliff Levingston isn't sure any other coach is as good at connecting with his guys than Lovie is. He's also got a good defensive mind and it's no coincidence that our defense was pretty damn good on the whole under him when key players were healthy.

Sweet: it was time for a change. Lovie wasn't a good clock manager, in-game coach and didn't seem to grasp offense at all. He was given the ability to bring in the coaches he wanted and the offensive side of the ball failed quite miserably even after bringing in Cutler, Marshall and Forte. The O line has sucked and we had our fair share of personnel problems but still, c'mon.

We need someone who is or can bring in a real offensive coaching staff counting on Emery to supply the talent and actually get this offense into the 21st century.

I'm at a lost for words right now. Lovie helped make the Bears respectable again, and I fear that making him out to be a scapegoat is not the right move for the organization. I wish Lovie all the best, but I fear that with the way the football gods are torturing us Bears fans, the Packers will hire Lovie to be defensive coordinator and their defense will set the record for most turnovers in a game against us.

The best case scenario is we get a really good HC who hires Lovie back as DC, and Lovie is able to win a ring with us, but such fantasies are not healthy to dwell on. ****!

He's not being scapegoated at all, i don't think. We hired a new GM last year and usually, GMs get to pick their coaches. The writing was probably on the wall all along pending a superbowl run but we won't know that.

I think most people see this for what it is: we just need a different direction at the moment, one that puts us on the offensive map. Lovie clearly isn't the guy for that. Doesn't mean he's a bad coach, just that he's not the right coach for us anymore.

Lovie is a good coach and I feel that Emery did not want to lame duck him and so he let him go . He was tied down with a lot of issues within the Bears front office for years he will be scooped up quickly and will stabilize one of the floundering franchises .

Lovie was a damn good coach and leader of men as some of the media folk like to point to. But he should have been gone last year, it made more sense.

I like him as a person and his defense played ball. That said he along with Angelo had no idea how to build around a QB and receiver corps fit for modern NFL. Plus I have a personal preference for 3-4 defense. So he didnt fit me as a fan.

There was a time I believe Lovie was handcuffed by Angelo.
Angelo didn't think receivers were important.

At the end of the day, Lovie left the Bears better than when he got them.

If Lovie has the money to do it, id like it if he made the Nyquil gig his full time job for a season.

I really appreciate the work Lovie has done for this city. He established an identity for this franchise and won a LOT of football games for my favorite team. I hope that this works out like it did for Tony Dungy. He left Tampa and they won a Super Bowl the next year and then a few years later Dungy also got his ring.

It's hard to really hate his personality, he was a player coach and that's why so many Bears voiced their support when the news first broke. We had some good years under Lovie, but it was his time to go. Change was inevitable.

Dear Lovie,
Thanks for being married to darryl drake and bob babich.
Thanks for not learning about offense yourself in 9 years as bears coach.
Thanks for firing ron rivera for no reason.
Oh and thanks for the countless first and goal from the one failures over the years.
You will be missed.
