What a difference some fresh sets of eyes make.

Post#1 » by blumeany » Wed Mar 13, 2013 1:36 pm

When Phil Emery and Marc Trestman said they were going to evaluate their players, boy did they ever. It's obvious that this coaching staff and front offense have made some honest evaluations about the talent they had and are moving towards revamping the roster - as opposed to what the Smith/Angelo regime would do, which is hanging onto players that just don't cut it and hoping things will work out. You can see it in the fact that the Bears haven't flinched about their current free agents (minus Melton, who is a young up and comer and worth the tag). They know what they are looking at, and they aren't about to make another Kellen Davis-esque mistake. Instead, they went out and addressed the sad, sad, offensive line and the equally (or maybe more) sad TE position.

Having said all that, obviously the players still need to play. However, I can't really complain about the job that Emery has done so far.

Yeah. We're not there yet, but I've been impressed so far with Emerys approach.

I'm just glad they're taking their time in really looking at the internal free agents and allowing them to test the market. Shows me that they're not desperate as they were in previous years to hold on to the past just because it was the "known" and pay any silly price for it.

Let's see how this all holds up. Anything less than 10-6 is a failure because that is the standard they had set when citing the need for a coaching change.

It seems that this team has just lost a lot of momentum by losing Urlacher and the cogs that held them up last year, but I thought the same might've happened when Barca got rid of Ronaldinho and Deco; Barcelona with a new coach and new cogs, and a budding young Lionel Messi, then went on to become one of the best football teams ever. So, I guess who is going to be our budding Lionel Messi?

I agree. I want to see how Emery fills the holes left by Urlacher and Roach. Honestly, long term, those losses don't mean much to mean. Obviously, for the Bears to pass on Urlacher for even a modest sum like 3.5 mil, they have to have though either A. Urlacher is completely done physically, B. There is someone out there that can replace him fairly easily, or both.
