Brad Lidge (Article)

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Sun Jun 3, 2007 4:56 pm

For the Astros, it would be a steep price to pay for unloading a talent like Lidge. The Phillies also would view that as a steep price, but Phillies general manager Pat Gillick has a solid relationship with the Astros' top decision-makers, Tal Smith and Tim Purpura. They trust each other and would know they were trying to work out a fair deal for the success of both franchises. Moreover, Gillick would know that the Braves also have a need for quality bullpen help and a top young, switch-hitting catcher in Jarrod Saltalamacchia, 22, who is stuck behind Brian McCann.

Saltalamacchia would be perfect for the Astros, and Lidge could save the Braves' season considering they have lost Mike Gonzalez, whom they acquired this winter to try to fix the bullpen that betrayed them last year. As bad as some folks may have perceived Lidge's season last year, his numbers would have put Atlanta in the playoffs.

We can do better than Lidge for Salty, although I wouldn't mind him on the team.

agreed, and Houston would have to add to their part of the trade.

We need starting pitching not bullpen help. I am satisfy and content with finishing the season with soriabo in the 8th and wick in the 9th.

Salty can get us back a number 2 at the least.

I would also like for us to acquire Brad but don't believe he's worth trading for if it's going to cost us Salty.

Salty for Lidge and starter Chris Sampson.

If the Braves get Lidge they would have the option of moving Soriano to the rotation(which he wants to do). And when Gonzalez gets back next year he would close and Lidge would set him up.

Soriano in the rotation?

Does he have enough stuff to be a starter? Looks like he depends alot on his fastball and slider combo.

Lidge wants to close, he doesn't want to be a setup guy.

I'd rather trade Salty for a starter and keep Gonzo and Soriano in the pen.

Who knows when or if Gonzo will be able to close again anyway?

I just think Salty is worth more than what you're suggesting. Although with Thorman's horrid slump, Salty may become a fixture @ first base.

If Houston's season continues down the tubes, and they don't make their traditional second half push - Lidge may be had for some mid level prospects.

No, because Big Z would only be a rental for us.

I WANT TEXEIRA.
