Anyone know much about him? Is he as good as Lance was for us?

He'll play the left side and he's better known for pass protection than the run game. Also, he prefers to be called Cole, not Matt.

As DSand mentioned, he's a very good pass blocker, but not so much of a run blocker. Honestly, given with how many run blockers we have, it's nice having a pass-blocking lineman. He's also young and got better as the season wore on.

I like the signing. I preferred him over Moore. He won the starting spot in the beginning and as mentioned as the season went on. Its probably on a really cheap deal too.

Jets fans say he's a good Run blocker & exceptional in pass blocking.

Also Slauson was rated higher than Lance & allowed 0 blocks last year, young & cheaper too.

"@seankjensen: According to @PFF, Matt Slauson was ranked 31st among guards last season. The highest-rated #Bears guard was Lance Louis at No. 47."

Sounds good to me. But PFF also has Bushrod rated just slightly better than Webb.

He is a two and a half star (out of five) on the walterfootball Fa rankings we use fir thebears game. Based on that yes he is an upgrade to louis who was 1and a half star.
Lol i sound like the star search guy.

Based on those parameters i have to believe this is a good signing.

Definitely an upgrade. Still need to address the OL in the draft and hope Carimi can play somewhere, but the picture looks better than last year.

Looking more an more like Cutler will have some kind of pocket. Question is, does the passing game rely on letting Jay survey the field so he can rifle the ball, or is is going to be get the ball out quicker for rythm and timing passes. Getting Jay a reliable amount of time consistenly is key, even if short amount. But the ball comes out in a preplanned amount of time. Next question, is he that kind of QB?

Considering Trestman's resume with the WCO, you have to believe it will a lot of quick passes.

I would imagine that Forte will be used a lot more in the passing game.

I think the offense is mostly gonna be quick passes since all our skill players are good at getting YAC. And probably rollouts for big hitters down the field. Our line is improving but probably still average to below average so having a lot of 5 and 7 step drops would still be terrible

I'm somewhat worried.that Jay isnt the kind of QB that can direct a shorter route, possesion style attack. Or throw to timing spots rather than rifling to "open" guys. Clearly his numbers in Denver indicate the Bears have been misusing him in some way though, and I am glad to see the Bears adding smarter, more technical lineman to facilitate more intelligent offense ostensibly.

Idk if true WCO is the best way to use Cutler either, but since I don't have any other options, I'm going to trust that Trestman does find an effective system for our players. This is really the most talented offensive group I've seen the Bears put together in my life.

one things for sure. The Bears want to be a modern pro football team now. The emphsis is changing and I have waited my whole adult life for the lightbulb to come on. May or may not work. These are still the McCaskeys overseeing things after all. But they appear to have gotten the memo and are loosening up with their hirings.

Trestman is rooted in WCO but he's not married to it. Emery stressed that he was looking for someone adaptable, so you've got to believe Trestman will run whatever he can to play to Cutler's strengths.

With regard to Slauson, nice deal! ...just wish it was longer than a year.
