Well, if you want to do the popular thing and look at this year's Super Bowl teams, both of them are aggressive as all hell. I saw one of the Ravens players give Welker a lickin' and the next time Brady threw to him he got the dropsies. You could tell he was concentrating more on the punishment he was about to take than actually catching the ball.

San Fran is mean as hell too. There was a play where they actually PICKED UP the running back and THREW HIM DOWN. It was crazy. Lovie's defenses were fast, but not really mean or aggressive. I think he was more about speed and disruption than actually punishing the QB and receivers.

But honestly, there's so much the Bears need to do on offense that now isn't the time for them to dramatically change their defense as well. I think it'll probably look very similar to what it has been the last few years. You won't see a dramatic change until Briggs, Tillman, and probably Peppers are gone. I'm just going under the assumption that Urlacher is 'gone' - whether he's on the roster next year or not.

Was on the fence about Tucker but on Sports Sunday live Dan Hampton said this is a good hire.

As many of us know, Dan is a straight shooter and is not gonna sugarcoat anything. His analysis left me feeling better about this hire.

The Chicago Bears have tabbed former Purdue Boilermakers defensive coordinator Tim Tibesar as their new linebackers coach, according to a league source.

He's also had a stint in Canada, as well.

Linebacker Lance Briggs said Thursday that change in the defensive coaching staff was tough to accept given the Chicago Bears' success in recent seasons, but he maintains the veterans will "stay positive" during the transition.

"Initially doubt goes through everybody's mind because as a defense we don't think there's anything wrong," Briggs said on "SVP & Russillo" on ESPN Radio. "There's nothing wrong with the defense so to make changes to something that there's nothing wrong with, the first thing that goes through your mind is you can only hurt it.

"But we're vets, and we understand this is a change and you have to stay positive about it and work through it. We brought in Mel Tucker (as defensive coordinator) ... I haven't spoken to any of these coaches yet but staying positive that things are going to work out."

Why the hell haven't the coaches reached out to speak with the players yet?

So far, the only player that's had any words with any of the coaches has been Cutler & that was before the Bears even hired Trestman.

I just find it odd that they haven't picked up the telephone to, at least, say hello to any of their players.

Saw an insider article earlier where Urlacher was quoted saying that he hadn't received a call from any of the Bears' staff so far this season.

I don't understand it.

I wonder if Emery and Trestman are thinking about trading guys for draft picks and getting younger players? I mean what could be the reason for not calling them yet?

Bears Insider@bears_insider
#Bears DC Mel Tucker says he will stick to a 4-3 defense, has no plans to switch to 3-4.

Bears will run a 4-3 over D, according to Mel Tucker.

Mel Tucker told me: "We’ll base out of a 4-3 “over” defense. It will be an attacking, up-the-field, penetrating defense."

You can still play Tampa 2 out of 4-3 over front. So my guess is the Bears will mix things up w/some of the old and new.

Mel Tucker said Bears will keep a lot of the same terminology on defense.

Tucker: Bears will stick with an 'attacking' defense

New Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Mel Tucker said Thursday he plans on having an “attacking, up-the-field, penetrating defense,” very similar to the one that had been run by Lovie Smith and Rod Marinelli.

In fact, Tucker even plans on keeping the same terminology in place so players will have fewer adjustments to make. Tucker made it clear he thinks it’s all about players and stresses communication, from offseason to on-field.

“Input from the players is huge,” Tucker said. “They are on the field. That’s the chemistry part of it. Communication is huge. You have to have that. You want to encourage players to give you feedback.”

Asked about the future of Brian Urlacher,Tucker said, “We’re still in the evaluation process. We’ll go through that at some point.”

The 34-year old middle linebacker has an expiring contract, and he isn’t the only defensive player Tucker and the Bears need to make decisions on. Others whose deals are up include defensive linemen Henry Melton and Israel Idonije, linebacker Nick Roach and cornerbacks Kelvin Hayden and D.J. Moore.

“In terms of personnel, who is going to be here, who’s not going to be here, I don’t know that,” Tucker said. “We are still in the evaluation process. There is still time to figure those things out.”

Tucker also was noncommittal on where Shea McClellin may play in the future, but he was firmly committed to a 4-3 defense.

“We don’t have any plans to switch at this point,” he said.

Tucker’s defense in Jacksonville did not have great success, but he has much more to work with in Chicago.

“I’m really trying to move past that,” he said when asked about his Jaguars experience. “I never had any issues with the effort those players gave and the coaching staff. I’ll leave there knowing we gave everything we had.”

Tucker is thrilled with his opportunity in Chicago. He mentioned his wife Jo Ellen grew up in the area and is an alum of Bremen High School and the University of Illinois.

“What’s not to like about the Bears?” he said. “It’s a great organization, lots of tradition. My wife is from Chicago. I’m a Midwestern guy from Cleveland. I played at Wisconsin. There is a great tradition of football. On the defensive side of the ball there is some history as well.”

I am not happy about the head coach and even more so in the dc... his record does matter and I am honestly not impressed by the clearing house.. when we just got a offense to spell the defense.. we hire a unproven coach and a proven dc that has a horrible record.

This guy should be fired tomorrow. He is in over his head. Our defense has basically the same personnel & we're running the same scheme, yet we are absolutely HORRIBLE.

**Sidenote

Red-Bulls & Heir specifically, please help Emp keep the board active. He's a real good guy.

I'm probably on my way to being completely banned from RealGM. I'm already banned from the Bulls board because I've called out the horrid mod team regarding their unfairness & agenda-driven topics. I sent a pm today to one of the mods (Duck) in response to a message that he left me. I let him know that he's a liar & he's full of ****, so the word "banned" should be appearing under my username very soon.

More than anything on RealGM, I've enjoyed my time on the Bears board going all the way back to the days of Emp & Chewie going at each other. Keep the board active for Emp, fellas.

Peace out, username BIGGIEsmalls23.

Someone brought Biggie's post to my attention. Rest assured that regardless of Biggie's PMs to me, which he has more or less accurately described here, neither I nor any other Bulls mod intends to take any further action against Biggie.

He is free to post on any board at Realgm other than the Bulls board. This was the Bulls Mods specific request to Howard when we requested action against Biggie, because we wanted him to be able to contribute on the other boards - and this Bears one in particular.

And he can appeal his Bulls board ban in time if he wants to return. If he does not post here on the Bears board, or on other non-Bulls boards at Realgm, it will be by his choice. Sorry for the disruption.
