That said, I liked Daniel McCullers as the run-stuffing DT. C'mon, imagine a 6'7", 352-pound DT next to Jared Allen.

McCullers would have been available in the 4th, so the Bears could have gotten some help elsewhere this draft (safety? a wideout? maybe Tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz).

Like Sutton, like Fuller, but Ego Ferguson... not so sure.

McCullers sounds like a 3/4 nose tackle. The Bears won't play a pure 3/4 this year from what I'm understanding. Which makes sense of course, they don't have the linebackers, and Allen is a traditional 4/3 end. Thats why Nix wasn't chosen, but I think he could have been worked in eventually. I agree with you in general, I like that kind of player for the future, and I want to play that way. Anyway, Ego has run stuffing ability according to Emery. He supposedly has some ability to hold his spot and penetrate, shed a block and move laterally to grab ballcarriers.

Didn't the Bears have Ted Washington early in Urlacher's career?

I remain unsold on Ferguson. I like Sutton, especially if he can be around 285, and be a disruptive interior rusher. But McCullers... you can't coach that sort of size, and he'd help the run defense immensely. He'd have been an instant run-defense upgrade, would have been available in the 4th round.

Then consider that the opportunity cost would have been a TE like Fiedorowicz. Ego Ferguson... needs to convince me.

So, my first two days draft would be:
1. CB Kyle Fuller, Virginia Tech
2. TE C.J. Fiedorowicz, Iowa
3. DT Will Sutton, Arizona State

In the 4th, I'd go McCullers. Maybe go for a young QB in the 5th (Logan Thomas of Virginia Tech). Then int he 6th look for a RB and a WR.

This is my favorite pick of draft so far (for the Bears). This guy measures up very favorably to Jeremiah Ratliffe (6'3, 310 ilbs) and now gets to learn behind him. This will help them both. It is going to be very difficult to run between the tackles on the Bears, these two are going to hold the line of scrimmage, and at the very least occupy blockers. I think he was slotted to go later because he is not going to be a good pass rusher, but I don't think Emery is counting on him for sacks. Furgeson and Ratliffe are going to stop the run, and collapse the pocket... Just two huge, angry, bearded men in the middle. The whole defensive scheme will revolve around these two taking away interior runs.
