What I like about the two DT picks is the heavy investment from Emery in the Dline through FA and now the draft. New Dline coach and lots of upside players. If they can coach them up then the Bears D line could be scary. If we can stop the run and get pressure then Conte and Mundy will be enough.

All about this pick. Dude had 13 sacks & 23 TFL his junior year. Just like Alshon he had a down year due to weight issues. Look at that motor.

I don't think Donald ever had 13 sacks.

You said it better.
Got to be able to stop runs--can't have all 260 -270 guys ala Lovie or teams smash mouth you.
Probably as close to the good ole days as we can get....

How was that the good old days? They had one flukey 13-3 season and a bunch of crap seasons under Jauron.

Knocks seem to be his increase in weight and the whole 'disappearing' criticism. Emery intrigues me with his picks, I'll give him that. Time will tell. Lots of stories to follow this year.

He's down to 290 now and says that he could lose 5-10 lbs more if the Bears want him to.

When he was lighter, Sutton's JR season was as good as Aaron Donald's season this past season. I'm really happy with the Sutton pick.

I really like Sutton in the third round. Seems like a poor man's version of Aaron Donald (undersized tone setter with stellar production). I love that he was a two time conference defensive player of the year. I love his burst off the snap. I love his sack and TFL numbers. Solid pick by Emery. I love how he has overhauled the Dline, and I love all the different pieces now in place. Idonije would have been our third best Dlineman last year. As of now, he is probably our 5th or 6th best.

I thought I saw a comparison to Geno Atkins somewhere. Donald was also compared to Atkins.

Donald is more of a specimen, has longer arms (1 inch), and is much faster. I'm not sure about quickness, will have to do research. But Sutton has huge 10 inch hands (1/4 bigger than Donald). Both Bears tackles have gigantic hands. Ego's hands are approaching 11 inches or something freakish like that. Those are Michael Jordan hands.

I agree that Donald is a much better prospect. But I feel better about taking a promising undersized pass rushing DT in the middle of the third, than an elite undersized pass rushing DT in the top of the first.

Also, I understand how arm size is important to lineman. I have no clue why hand size factors in. Can you tell me how that is relevant (not being sarcastic or a smart ass, I just want to know).

With the skill positions it is usually pretty clear that big hands allows people to do better things with the ball. But with linemen, I hadn't actually thought much about hand size until last season when people were remarking about Kyle Long having almost the biggest hands in the draft. And his strength. Huge hands and big strength has to help you get control of your opponent. They were saying that once Kyle gets his hands on somebody it was over...

I think longer arms and big hands is an advantage. Something that appears to be a common trait among the top athletes in their sports, especially the hand to hand (so to speak) combat sports. Helps you gain leverage and control. Part of the puzzle.

I watched Sutton play over the last two years at ASU, as I went there and still live in Tempe. Huge Bears fan coming from Chicago. I LOVE this pick in the 3rd round, he had the talent to be a 1st rounder after his Jr. year. The coaches asked him to put on weight so he could move inside and obviously it affected his play style. Also due to winning DPOY for Pac-12 in 2013, he was constantly double-teamed and still put up good numbers. AND he still won Pac-12 DPOY this year! This guy is a team leader and very fiery. Will be a great locker room guy and someone who will work hard to play whichever D-Line spot we want. Great pick for the future.
