I'm telling you, if we win this it could be a blessing in disguise. Lou HAS to recognize how bad Dempster has become. He's not average. His h+w/IP ratio is not good for a closer, his ERA will be 4 or higher, and that's just not acceptable. Not for a team with our kind of payroll and aspirations. Lou has to pull the plug on him as closer.

He actually argued with me for multiple pages that Dempster was a better option than Marmol to close.

Combine that with his premature game thread...he's just been wrong on every level.

Unfortunately, I think from now on all the changes Lou makes will be minor. I don't think he wants to make any drastic moves. But hopefully he will manage Dempster more carefully.

Lou has to take some blame for leaving him in after he'd given up 2 9-inning HRs. I don't know what he's thinking. It's one thing to want to let your closer know that you have confidence in him. It's another thing to show confidence in a guy who shouldn't be your closer in the first place, and to jeopardize an important win because of it.
