Excited about a project QB when we have a franchise QB?
We still haven't drafted a offensive lineman...

No one we pick, LeFevour or an offensive lineman is likely to make an impact this year, and may not even make the roster. You have to look past need and go BPA. A developmental guy would be nice, but there's still the 7th round or UDFA.
At this point you just have to hope the combination of Tice, guys changing positions, and some possible veterean FAs will improve our OLine.

The Bears were going to go with that Young from Notre Dame but Dallas took him 2 picks before us. It's the 6th round too. Not like you're going to get anybody worthwhile.

A wise man once said in the McCown thread...
I always like the old Packers strategy of drafting a QB even if your roster isn't in need in the chance you strike gold. If a QB is far and away the top guy on your draft board when your number comes up you've got to give it serious consideration.
Oh wait, that was no wise man - that was me.
Scout.com :
After putting together a solid week of practice at the Senior Bowl, Central Michigan quarterback Dan LeFevour has had a controversial offseason, which was highlighted by his decision not to throw at the Scouting Combine. And his decision not to throw in Indianapolis put even more pressure on LeFevour to perform at his Pro Day on March 24th.
LeFevour received mixed reviews from his Pro Day; scouts want to see him improve his footwork in his drops and throwing the deep ball. But a lot of LeFevour’s flaws are correctable, and it won’t prevent teams from taking him in the late second, early third round.
Scout.com has learned that three teams, the Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals and Tennessee Titans, are showing a strong interest in the former Chippewas signal caller - the Panthers and Bengals have scheduled a private workout with LeFevour, and the Titans are hosting him in Tennessee next month.
The Bengals, Panthers and Titans have their starting quarterbacks in place for the 2010 season, but the facts are that Carson Palmer has been injury prone, Matt Moore is unproven and has never been the main attraction entering a season and Vince Young, just two years ago, contemplated his football future and considered retiring. Beyond the aforementioned starters, the depth charts at quarterback for each of the three teams are rather thin, and drafting LeFevour would give one of the teams a solid developmental quarterback to groom for the future.
Interestingly enough, LeFevour and Young share a prestigious NCAA milestone; they’re the only two quarterbacks in NCAA history to throw for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in a single season.
A four-year starter at Central Michigan, LeFevour distinguished himself as one of college football’s most exciting field generals and showcased the ability to beat a defense with his arm and legs. LeFevour finished his illustrious career with a 66.4 completion percentage while throwing for 12,905 yards, 102 touchdowns and 36 interceptions, not to mention his 2,948 rushing yards and 49 touchdowns.
LeFevour is currently the 4th rated quarterback listed on Scout.com’s 2010 NFL Draft Rankings.

Just heard about this pick...a little shocked. But no reason why Hanie should just be handed the backup spot

Caleb Hanie is on notice.
LeFevour looks like more than mere practice squad fodder esp if we get a vet QB in here.

I like this pick and I like the Wright and Wooten picks. Not overly excited about 5 and 7.

He's worth the risk there but I gotta say he was one of my biggest disappointments last year. He just doesn't feel the need to throw the ball hard enough. He can--I've seen him do it--but he's one of those guys that doesn't trust his fastball, to cross sports. And I was very discouraged at his field vision. CMU's offense was similar to Florida's--the QB makes one pass read, checks to his hot if needed or runs. There were many times where Lefevour missed the hot adjustment because it wasn't where he expected it, and that was against crap defenses like EMU and Bowling Green. He's the exact same player now he was 3 years ago and that frustrates me because he still has the potential to be every bit the payer that Vince Young is. IMO they are very similar except Young throws the ball harder more consistently.
I'm intrigued by how he and Martz get along. I also strongly believe he and Hanie are fighting for the same spot because a vet will be brought in--and y'all need to pray it's not JT O'Sullivan.
