Returners - Hester, Manning, Knox, Wolfe
That's only 51 guys so help me out what am I missing?
Some great competition in the secondary, that will be interesting to see who steps up. Also, will we keep 4 Tight Ends? I would say yes. Maybe we keep a 7th linebacker as a special teams guy. Also could keep 6 receivers since Davis is a good special teams player. What about RB...Wolfe and Peterson can play special teams, Bell I'm not so sure that's why I listed him as the odd man out.

Is Wolfe really needed? Nope, get rid of him.
Cliff Levingston would be surprised if we only had LeFevour as our backup QB. Hanie will be around next year, so he's in.
If Olsen is still around (i.e. not traded before the season) then there's no way we keep Kellen Davis on the roster. Not that he's bad, but he'll never see the field. He's out.
Where'd you find Tyler Reed? He was cut a long time ago.
One of the reasons Angelo dumped Alex Brown was because he wanted to make room for the other DEs, and Melton is one of them. He's in. Idonije will still swing to the DT spot on pass rushing situations.
Word on the street is that the Bears are close to writing off Gilbert. Cliff Levingston will buy it. Toeaina in.
Cliff Levingston personally hopes Payne would be kept over Steltz, but it's not like either of them are particularly good.
You left Tim Jennings off the CB list; he'll probably be there. Cliff Levingston also can't understand why Corey Graham is left out. Cliff Levingston thought he played well a couple years ago when Vasher missed a lot of time.
If it were up to Cliff Levingston:
QB - Jay Cutler, Caleb Hanie, Dan LeFevour
RB - Matt Forte, Chester Taylor, Adrian Peterson
FB - Will Ta'ufo'ou
WR - Devin Aromashodu, Devin Hester, Earl Bennett, Johnny Knox, Juaquin Iglesias
TE - Brandon Manumaleuna, Greg Olsen, Desmond Clark
OT - Chris Williams, Frank Omiyale, Kevin Shaffer, J'Marcus Webb
OG - Roberto Garza, Josh Beekman, Lance Louis, Johan Asiata
C - Olin Kreutz
DE - Julius Peppers, Mark Anderson, Corey Wootton, Israel Idonije, Henry Melton
DT - Tommie Harris, Anthony Adams, Marcus Harrison, Matt Toeaina
LB - Lance Briggs, Brian Urlacher, Pisa Tinoisamoa, Nick Roach, Hunter Hillenmeyer, Tim Shaw
S - Chris Harris, Major Wright, Danieal Manning, Al Afalava, Kevin Payne
CB - Charles Tillman, Zack Bowman, Tim Jennings, Woodny Turenne, Corey Graham, Josh Moore
PK - Gould
P - Maynard
LS - Mannelly
Practice Quad: DJ Moore, Craig Steltz, Kevin Malast, Kahlil Bell, Kellen Davis, Jarron Gilbert, Freddie Barnes, Levi Horn

Really? I thought him, Melton, and Israel were ready to step up in the absense of Alex and Wale this year. I hadn't heard anything regarding their disapointment and possibly cutting him. I would be extremely surprised if he was on the opening day roster.

He is a Lovie favorite and has turned into a good special teams player. He has value there.

Again, you forget the emphasis the staff puts on special teams. You can't have 3 tight ends who don't play special teams. I think they keep all 4, but if they only keep 3 then I would bet that Des Clark is gone.

My bad, substitute Asiata there. Damnit...I wish I was typing Faneca.

I had heard it was Melton that was falling out of favor. It'll be interesting to see who made strides in the off season and can get on the field out of Gilbert and Melton.

I think Stelz is one of those guys like Wolfe that Lovie loves. Just a hunch. Payne will be out.

You have 11 DB's on your 53 man roster, even 10 would be a lot to keep. There isn't room for Jennings, Graham, and Moore. Should be a good battle with the Bears keeping the best special teams guys.

Is he really better than Adrian Peterson in either capacity? Maybe you're right, but that doesn't make Lovie right either.

Yea, cutting Clark makes some sense even though he's still a good player. Ideally, we trade Olsen since he'll be worthless in Martz's scheme anyway, and beyond that, he's just not all that good.

Cliff Levingston doesn't remember where he heard it (probably on the Bears boards) but it makes sense. Melton played well in the pre-season last year before getting hurt while Gilbert barely saw the field last year when Harris was sucking and our pass rush was anemic.

Either way, it doesn't really matter.

They'd play special teams, duh!

I think it's too early to come up with a 53-man as we may yet sign a vet or two (QB and OG). I'll add some random thoughts on the more controversial positions, though....
If we go with a vet QB, I'll guess Hanie and LeFevour compete for the 3rd QB spot as Icness suggested. I don't know if we'd be able to stash LeFevour on the practice squad without losing him.
I think Wolfe has expired his chances, special teams success or not but I don't agree that Peterson has a spot cemented on this team at all. Bell showed me more.
I've only heard good things about Melton's chances so I'll say he sticks. We didn't redshirt him for nothing. I'm interested to see if "I can jump out of a pool" Gilbert steps it up. He needs to show something.
I get the impression that Steltz is looked on more favorably than Payne - it seemed like he was the favorite for the SS job before we landed Harris.
TE will be interesting. 4 is too many to carry. I'll say Dez will be out for salary reasons and it'll be Olsen, Manumaleuna, and Davis. We didn't have room for Gaines last year so why would we have room for 4 TEs on an offense that utilizes WRs more in the passing game?
